Japan, Brazil, USA, Italy, China, Serbia, and Russia are all qualified (7 teams) 5 spots will come down to the Final Continental Qualifying Tournaments in January 2020 African QualificationAsian Qualification European QualificationNORCECA QualificationSouth America-Asia will come down to Thailand vs. South Korea in the Final Match. Thailand, as host, makes this match very interesting. -European Qualifier seems like a bloodbath. Take your pick. -NORCECA Qualifier favors Dominican Republic but Canada and Puerto Rico could always surprise. I don't think Mexico will be able to compete. -South America Qualifier looks to come down to Argentina vs. Colombia, but Peru could always surprise as well. -Africa's hottest team might be Cameroon, but Kenya could always threaten and take back their dominance in Africa. Anyone have any information on who's trending up/down as of now? Any injuries that will potentially affect these tournaments?? Who is going to come out of Europe alive?

Netherlands will be the biggest challenge for them. Poland and perhaps even Germany are not teams to be laughed at either.

Would FIVB ever just go straight point standings for the olympics, so it was truly the best teams to compete in the olympics

Get the top 12 teams in. A lot simpler and less controversial too. But FIVB has to ensure geographic representation as well, so we end up with teams like Argentina or Kenya, which, no offense against them, don't really belong to the Olympics. I have always said FIVB should expand the Olympic slots, at least maybe to 16 teams, so that we can get more teams in. Just don't hold your breath for that to happen.

We're leaving next week and will be in Thailand for the finals on January 12. Thailand is much healthier now. Following is a Twitter account article that talks about how their top three young hitters are all finally back from injury: Thai Volleyball In addition, veteran hitter Malika seems to be finally past her thyroid problem for the first time in years.

But they still like to hold tournaments so they make more $$$$. Plus as a fan I would want to watch teams earn it. Not just rest on the laurels of their world ranking.

I'm going to be watching the European tournament very closely. Whoever makes it from CEV could drastically alter the make up of the Tokyo pools. Pool B has the potential to be just a deadly as it was in Rio.

One of the primary madates of the FIVB is to grow the game globally. If the HAVES continue to take all the televised opportunities, the support base of the HAVE NOTS countries will never develop. It does make for some pitiful matches to watch. At Beach Worlds, some matches had players of possibly CVBA B level, with scoes of 21-3, 21-4, etc. Not competitive, but it is assumed to be the price to pay to grow the game around the world.

Yes, I know, but why does it have to be one way (get the best teams) or the other (grow the game globally)? You can mitigate this issue by increasing the number of slots available, like I said. But how likely that will happen, I won't want to bet on it.

My predictions:
AVC: Korea CAVB: Kenya CEV: Turkey CSV: Argentina NORCECA: Dominican Republic
Kenya impressed me more than Cameroon did during the World Cup. Argentina is looking the best they have maybe ever. Lavarini really has turned Korea around in a very short time...Thailand might pull it off since they are all healthy....which would be HUGE! I think the Dominican Republic will really have to screw up to blow this. I don't see Canada making that big of a push....yet. CEV is going to be tough.....I think Turkey will come out on top. The Netherlands have the hosting advantage and it will be interesting to see what Caprara has done with them in such a short time.

Is Autumn Bailey healthy for Canada? She recently signed in Italy so that would point to a yes? Or at least very near healthy
