The European preliminary scheduling is ... odd. I imagine it is centered around only having three matches a day.
Netherlands and Bulgaria have to play 3 days in a row, but then they are the only two teams in the event that get a day break before the semifinals (if they qualify)
Belgium and Croatia have to play 3 days in a row and to qualify for Tokyo they have to play 5 matches and 5 days, and of course HAVE to win the last two matches of that span.

Roster for Turkey.
S: Naz Aydemir Aykol, Cansu Ozbay OPP: Ebrar Karakurt, Meryem Boz OH: Meliha Ismailoglu, Hande Baladin, Seyma Ercan, Fatma Yildirim, Tugba Senoglu MB: Eda Erdem, Zehra Gunes, Asli Kalac, L: Simge Akoz, Ayca Aykac
Looks like Kubra Akman is still injured though I'm not sure what happened with libero Gizem Orge who plays for Vakifbank under Guidetti.

Thanks for this! Turkey had another L/DS whose name is escaping me right now.... but I don’t think her name is one of the 4 you listed above.

Celeste Plak is reportedly injured with Achilles tendon. Hope Sloëtjes shows up to play or the Dutch are toast. Hope Plak's injury isn't too severe and she recovers quickly.

Guidetti has used her as a DS for NT a few times. I don't keep up with the Turkish League, but I heard that she's having a bad season.

I'm calling it, Poland upsets Netherlands in the pool play, Turkey-Netherlands play an exhausting 5 set SF, and Turkey runs out of gas in the finals. Smarzek leads Poland back to the Olympics.

Here's a fun pool of death scenario that would require the following: Thailand, Dominicana, Turkey, Argentina all win their continental qualifiers.
Pool A - 1 JAPAN 4 SERBIA 5 BRAZIL 8 DOMINICAN REPUBLIC 9 ARGENTINA 12 CAMEROON
Pool B - 2 CHINA 3 USA 6 RUSSIA 7 ITALY 10 TURKEY 11 THAILAND
I'm here for it!

I don't see Thailand winning with a healthy KYK

I don't see Thailand winning with a healthy KYK They have beaten Korea before with KYK in full health. I won't want to discount Thailand entirely. That being said, I agree they would be at a disadvantage against KYK. And Thailand have not been playing so great lately.

I'm rooting for Turkey but I have to admit your prediction is quite a plausible scenario. Especially about Turkey running out of gas in the finals, that seem to be a recurring pattern with them lately. Even with a great coach like Guidetti at the helm, at the end of the day, he can only do so much.

Pool A - 1 JAPAN 4 SERBIA 5 BRAZIL 8 DOMINICAN REPUBLIC 9 ARGENTINA 12 CAMEROON Pool B - 2 CHINA 3 USA 6 RUSSIA 7 ITALY 10 TURKEY 11 THAILAND I'm here for it! In that scenario here is what the final pool standings should look like: Pool A: 1. Serbia 2. Japan 3. Brazil 4. Dominican Republic 5. Argentina 6. Cameroon Pool B: 1. China 2. Italy 3. USA 4. Turkey 5. Russia 6. Thailand Argentina, Russia, Cameroon and Thailand get eliminated. Here is what the Quarterfinals bracket could look like: Serbia vs. Turkey Brazil vs. Italy Japan vs. USA Dominican Republic vs. China In this scenario I can see the USA beating Japan and China beating the Dominican Republic. The real thriller will come when Serbia probably overtakes Turkey but the match could be dramatic. Italy should easily take down Brazil where we have Serbia vs. Italy in Semi-Final A and USA vs. China in Semi-Final B. I cannot decide which of the three favorites (China, Italy and Serbia) I would rather the USA face should they reach the semi's. Serbia is probably the weakest passing team (Mihajlovic, Busa and S. Popovic) but has such power on the pins and through the middle and a brilliant setter. Of all three of those favorites Italy is the youngest and the most streaky. Serbia and China have the more veteran teams with more impressive records. It will all come down to the right combination of players peaking at the right time for the USA. We will definitely be the underdogs with quite a few first year olympians on the roster. It's worth noting that in this scenario of pools the USA could be eliminated if Russia and Turkey play lights out or end up 4th and have to play Serbia in the quarterfinals. I am praying for the USA to come out strong and finish towards the top of the pool (like they do every olympics) and then have a much easier road to the semi's facing either Brazil, Japan or the Dominican Republic.
