Germany were the underdogs in this competition and now they're heading to the finals.

Germany eliminates the Dutch - this puts Italy in Group B with China, USA, and Russia Other Europe scenarios (regardless of NORCECA and Asia) Germany qualifies ---> Pool B Poland qualifies ---> Pool A (Kenya ---> Pool B) Turkey qualifies ---> Pool B** **The only scenario in which the above would change if Turkey, Thailand, and Puerto Rico qualify. That would put Turkey in Pool A, and Puerto Rico and Thailand in Pool B NORCECA: If Dominican Republic qualifies, they go into Pool A no matter what. If Puerto Rico qualifies, they have about a 2/3 chance of being in Pool B. Asia: If South Korea qualifies, they go into Pool A no matter what. If Thailand qualifies, they end up in Pool B no matter what. Pool B will, again, most likely be a bloodbath

Apparently, KYK did not play for Korea against Chinese Taipei due to an abdominal injury... She has been getting some treatment for the last couple of days. Hopefully its a minor thing and her sitting out today was a cautionary measure.

Generally speaking Club volleyball in Canada for girls is strongest in Ontario and Alberta. BC usually has good players but not on one team, while ALBERTA will have powerhouse teams like Pandas and Dinos and Ontario will have Halton Hurricanes, Pakmen and Leaside. I would say Canadian women’s volleyball lacks funding and consistency. They Canada Youth and Junior teams consist of 2 weeks training in the summer with a visit to USHP championships and are a pay to play program, so many people decline because of the cost. There is usually only one age group, Youth or Junior, so the players may only participate once in their club ages, unless they are playing up and that is pretty difficult to make the team. Last summer was the first year of “NextGen” where they are actually training more athletes than just the Senior team, so that is a step in the right direction. The men’s team has had success because they have had a full time training centre for years (Gatineau Quebec) Junior, Youth, Senior B, U21 and Senior A teams, so they are way ahead of the women’s programs and have a much stronger pipeline. Seems that the Canadian women when they complete their University careers are ready to get a job and move on with life, not many pursue a professional career or even try out for the Sr Team. Rant over - hope that helps 😊 YES, that definitely helps. Yeah I’ve for sure noticed that some of the better players that I’ve met/known really don’t consider playing after graduating. The Canadian National Team barely pays enough to support the players living, and training in Vancouver. It is a big commitment for not making any money beyond basic living expenses. With only 14 players on the traveling roster, a lot of the players aren't going to make the A-Team initially, and there is little support for the Next Gen team if they don't make the team right away. That is partly why many choose to pursue other endeavors. Top-level coaching for the women's program has not always been there either. I heard players like Pavan, and Love left in part due to coaching, and that it just isn't worth their time when they make so much more playing pro. If the team isn't making the Olympics, there is little left for them playing on the National Team for players like that.

Agreed, funding is not there and likely will not be unless things change and the women win/attend some more international tournaments. Vancouver is beautiful but very expensive so most of what they get goes to rent. It would make sense to me to have the men’s and women’s team in the same location and sharing resources - huge cost saver. And although Vancouver has a nice facility moving to Edmonton or a smaller Center that has a lot of courts would make fiscal sense, even if the climate is not as nice. I also thing that lots of U Sport Grads come out of school broke or in debt so playing on the National team will not be an option or they have put in their 5-6 years and their bodies are done. It takes a while to earn enough with a pro team that you can subsidize your summer, training with the National team, unless your Kyra Van Ryk that is 😂😂.
