Dutch service reception struggling here in the 3rd. Their OH's are notorious for being physical but they can't consistently receive

I’m I seeing this right? Sloetjes is playing so badly. She isn’t even swinging aggressively. Tons of tips. Djikema isn’t setting THAT poorly.

Hard to believe that this Dutch team is the same as the team that got fourth at the Olympics. Well they're not the same players they were 4 years ago. This generation will be the Netherlands last chance at the Olympics, their youth are far behind our countries and the team will most likely fade out of competition. Completely agree. Daalderop, Lohuis, and Bogaerts are the only players of the next generation that are at the level they need to be. Sad to see such a talented team slowly fade tho. Hopefully they’ll make it to the Olympics, but I think Germany is the better team at this tournament

Dutch trailed late but came back to win the 3rd set, 25-22 and sweep.
Kenya up 2-1 but Cameroon leads the 4th.
There will be another big match later with Peru vs. Argentina -- I think 3pm PST?

Argentina takes set 1 26-24 against Peru. Really nice to see a PACKED house for a neutral-site match. Colombia plays the later match.

Kenya beats Cameroon in five... Huge match for them I guess Cameroon won't be going to Tokyo. A shame, they did show some promise in 2018 and 2019, but they can't sustain that performance.

I saw the writing on this way during the World Cup. Kenya was hungrier. In theory they could lose to Nigeria but I doubt it.

The first day of CSV action went as expected with Argentina and Colombia both garnering sweeps of Peru and Venezuela respectively.
Tomorrow we get our first looks at Croatia (Fabris/Samadan) vs. Turkey and Belgium (Herbots/Grobelna) vs. Germany.
So far in CEV Germany looks pretty solid. The Dutch don't look great but when have they ever? I would say the Turkey and Germany looked like they were in the best shape so far.
Poland also looked good as Stysiak, Smarzek, Wolosz and Co. got past Bulgaria with no big issues. I still think Poland lacks hustle and a sense of urgency. They are big and slow.
Kenya is all but assured to get the CAVB ticket after topping Cameroon today in 5 sets.
Thailand, Korea and Kazakhstan all achieved expected wins in AVC's branch today.
NORCECA gets started on Friday.
Any big surprises so far from your prospective?

Watching Turkey vs. Germany.....the big difference maker was that Germany was going for high hands and Turkey wasn't covering deep enough. Turkey was getting past the block but were hitting right into the defenders. Germany out played Turkey in the back court which isn't that shocking. They just had a better day. If I were Guidetti....tomorrow I would start Boz over Baladin. Really make Karakurt earn her spot. Ismailoglu can't terminate but damn she is a lights out passer and defender.

Any big surprises so far from your prospective? Germany over Turkey was surprising to me. Not to me. Both of those teams have had lots of new young talent emerging during this quad. Lippman's time in the Chinese League is paying off. Orthmann playing in Italy is also paying dividends. People can argue with me until the end of time but Italy's league is better top to bottom than Turkey's. Turkey pays better so more international players get more opportunities than the domestic players do on the mid and low tiered teams. This handicaps the league a bit. Guidetti has made some pretty drastic changes especially where Karakurt and Baladin are concerned. They don't have to play lights out but need to contribute and be consistent. Germany has beaten Brazil three times in the past 2 years at major level competition. I would consider Turkey to be on the same level as Brazil....talented and can play with the big teams but is pretty inconsistent. Germany is just about at that level. They don't yet have the depth on the bench that Turkey and Brazil have but they can play. They also had a pretty successful EuroVolley 2019. Turkey didn't play bad ball today....Germany just played better.

I'm off to bed so I can actually get up and watch the match. Ugh...I hate being in America especially with these damn time differences. I need to move to Europe stat...
