Or ya know, the younger players just aren't as good. It's not like he hasn't let young players in (remember how young Gabi is when he worked her in?). He's working with what he's got hoping the vets tide them over till the next crop of great players come up. USA is fortunate we have a huge player base and our system is set up to keep a much larger pool of players involved in the sport much later in their development (thanks to the NCAA subsidizing it). Other countries don't have that depth to fall back on. Meh...I don't buy Brazil not having enough depth. They have an entire pro-league at their disposal. The problem is that Ze is such an overly dramatic prima donna half the time causing many of the athletes to flat out boycott the NT. I don't know if his problem is being a prima donna, but it is true his working relations with his players on the Brazilian team has not always been smooth. More than a few of his players have complained about his coaching style and promised never to be coached by Ze Roberto again...only to return back on the NT later. Still, whatever his faults, Ze did coached three teams to win Olympic Gold, he earned the first gold for the Brazilian men in 1992 and of course also the golds in Beijing in 2008 and London 2012. Not to mention coaching the women team to 11 WGP championship titles. So he has probably earned a place on the Volleyball Hall of Fame once he retires. Interesting who is going to replace him. Who are the likely candidates?

IMHO the final rosters will be decided ..... by Coronavirus or a better saying - when it's going to be stopped. More and more countries restrict travelling and/or started screening the incomers. Japan is too close to China and Olympics means millions of people from all over the world mixing together. BTW they already cancelled the Indoor Track & Field Championship.... I really hope this won't happen but it doesn't depend on us.

Ease of obtaining visa, immigration requirements and custom checks are more important than mere geographic distance. North Korea is geographically close to Japan too, but it's pretty hard for North Koreans to go to Japan. Speaking of which, I hate to say this, but the knowledge of world geography by average Americans is about as much as Trump's knowledge of the US constitution, in other words, not much. For many Americans, most of them consider Asia as a single indistinguishable and monolithic blob. Same goes for Africa and South America.

I am simply stating a fact here about the lack of knowledge of geography. Ask the average American on the street about Asian, South American or African geography if you don't believe me.

To ironhammer: I take myself as an average american nowadays but a detail: I didn't get my high school diploma from a HS in the USA. I claim I know geography pretty well. OK, some countries changed their names, some new ones came out, etc. (I have no arguments there). On the other hand I still remember very well where are the oceans, seas ,continents, islands and this can't be changed. So, take a compass and figure out the distance from China to Japan, then compare it to the distance to Australia, Europe, N and S America....that was my reason for saying China and Japan being close. A lot of Chinese people these days have enough money, they like to travel and they are also vivid sports fans. Are you trying to imply Japan's authorities would try to stop them by not issuing them visas, etc.? What about people form the neighbor countries in SE Asia? Anyway I myself hope this virus thing would die by itself as many others in the near past....

I don't doubt your knowledge, but as for geographic distance, like I said, that is less important than controls over travel, with Japan likely to implement stricter control on travel from China until the outbreak dies down.

Preview of the Ariake Arena for Tokyo 2020. Japan held a ribbon cutting ceremony as well as grand opening for the venue with national team having a 10 minute performance training for the public. The stadium which can accommodate about 15,000 spectators is located in the Koto Ward of Tokyo which is around 10 kilometers from the Olympic Village. The Japan national team will have a test match in the venue with China, Thailand, and Chinese Taipei sometime in April. www.olympic.org/news/superb-tokyo-2020-volleyball-venue-opened-to-the-public-for-the-first-time So awesome! I wish I was going to be able to be there for the games. It just didn’t pan out for me to go.

OH- De la Cruz - Martinez OPP. Gonzalez... Till when Priscila???🙄 I'm sorry....was that gibberish? Please speak in complete sentences. Thanks. He doesn't like Rivera. She certainly has haters, but she has been a major part of each of Dominicana's successes on the volleyball court. She started in their first Olympic win (2004) and then 10 years later was a huge part of DR's run to the Final 6 at the World Championships. She also played a big role in getting DR back to Tokyo, 2020. On a very, very sad note. Prisilla lost her daughter today, who passes away at just 14 years old. R.I.P
