The ACC is going to be complete parody this year....in fact I think all of college volleyball is....we may even see a team that finished poorly last year finish top 5...or several. Parity? Or did you mean the conference is a joke?

Immediately followed by what Baylor did to Kansas! I think the second Baylor vs Kansas match made what Syracuse did even more impressive. I expected a Pitt turnaround similar to Baylor, but it actually went the other way.

Syracuse has plenty to work on...the setting is off and their back row has some breakdowns....but they are dangerous. Pitt many said would be fabulous...and they may grow into that, but no where near where they have been....so many miscues. GA Tech everyone expected to be dominant, they split with a very scrappy Miami team. Then ND took it to Louisville who had home court advantage.
One of the themes across the board is poor first and second contact (it is even in a normal season), but more teams seemed less prepared in those areas. After the first weekend, Nunez (ND), Polina (Syr), and Luekeanva (sp?, MIA) are big players to watch.

We obviously didnt see the same matches. Polina and Saada as well as both middles HAD to, did not elect to, roll shot or tip plenty of balls because the sets were trapped or too fast with Yelin trying to run a faster offense. I think that will get better as the season goes. Dont get me wrong, I like Karakasi, she is dynamic!

Last year was Pitt's year to make a move. The roster was a 3-4 year build up to that group of juniors and seniors. I thought they would still hold on as one of the top couple teams in the ACC for this year behind Lund but it looks like the losses are hitting them harder than expected. If they couldn't make the Sweet 16 last year it's going to be a minute before they build back up. Fisher may have missed the right window to move up.

I think teams to move up this year is obviously Syracuse, Notre Dame, Miami, and maybe Georgia Tech.
Next year will be North Carolina and probably Louisville.
The key is recruiting for sustainable longevity and not many ACC teams have done that which is why we see rise and fall of teams after 3 or 4 years. Until a team starts recruiting for multiple cycles at a high level, it will be hard for this conference to build.
Based on 2021, 2022 classes, looks like the next rise will be ND, Louisville, North Carolina, maybe BC.

They passed a 47% on the match, so there's room to improve there but Karakasi did a good job fooling the Pitt middles. Shemanova varies her shots and the off speed stuff worked well in the first match. Offensively Cuse looked good. UNC unfortunately were only in system on 39% of their attacks. Another disappointing year for the Tar Heels.

Another disappointing year for the Tar Heels. My point is that is Syracuse wants to leap ahead this year, there is no room for error. And the setting issues I saw, while minimal, still need to be worked out. I thought that Syracuse mostly looked good offensively, really good blocking, but the small setting issues and some honing passing will help them.
Yeah 39% is not going to get it done. Confusing since if you are running a 5-1, just use subs for your left pins if need be.

Doesn't matter who you sub if the DSs aren't passing better than the OHs. Wurl is the only UNC passer over 50% good pass. And VT isn't exactly the toughest serving team in the conference.

Where are you getting those passing stats from? I can never seem to find player passing stats other than for number of serve receive errors, digs, and digs per set. Never seem to be able to find anything like "% good passes".

Thanks for the info. Would be interesting to see those more detailed stats. Maybe I can be a virtual coach and just get stats access? LOL (j/k)
