Let's be honest here. We're all going to Triple Crown for the BBQ. Q39 and Joe's, here I come! If only Joe's or any of the other great BBQ places in KC were at Bartle (but they are not) - otherwise not all that convenient. I went to this tournament last year and plan to go again this year - it is such a great tournament to see in person. The highlight in February from an otherwise crappy weather month in KC. Try Pigwich. 20 East 5th Street, Kansas City, MO It is solid. Was on Diners, Drive Ins.... with KC coach reid

For the second week in a row, Sting beat A5 Jing who also lost at NLQ to OTVA 17 Felix. Northern Lights took 17 open with OT taking 2nd and Sting taking 3rd. Northern Lights seems to be a totally new team with Orr running the show, which was obviously going to happen. Only losing one set with this field is pretty impressive. Also great to see Sting doing well after losing their best player from last year. No offense to any other team but A5 should walk over most of these teams with their physicality and very strong first and second contact in Dupes and Greene. Haven't seen them this year but maybe has something to do with a line up change which would make more sense as to the early struggles. Going to be interesting watching their progression at Triple Crown.

Mintonette is going to have a fun Day 1. TAV Dallas, Houston Skyline & Coast! Mintonette without a doubt has the hardest first day. MAVS have the easiest.

Hometown cooking for that MAVS day 1 draw? Geesh, favoritism for Kansas City seems to be going around these days 😏

The top 18s power pool was released by PrepVolleyball behind their paywall. That’s all that’s out right now.

Hometown cooking for that MAVS day 1 draw? Geesh, favoritism for Kansas City seems to be going around these days 😏 As I understand (due to geography) the 1st day Pool matchups - TAV, Houston Skyline, and MAVS were not going to play each other the 1st day. COAST was open to play any of the other 7 teams. Mintonette, Munciana, Legacy, and Sky High weren't going to play each other. Given that set of rules - those last 4 teams were highly likely to have a brutal 1st day.

Here is what the final 16 teams did on the 1st day and what power pool they came out. All 8 in Pool A made it, 5 from B and 3 from C. That breakdown is probably what we would expect. 1st day results had some correlation to how the team finished, but not a lot of correlation.
1. Legacy - (2-1) Pool A 2. TIV - (2-1) Pool A 3. KIVA - (0-3) Pool A 3. TK - (3-0) Pool A 5. Top Select - (3-0) Pool B 5. Sunshine - (2-1) Pool B 5. Northern Lights - (1-2) Pool A 5. TAV - (3-0) Pool A 9. K2 - (3-0) Pool B 9. Municiana - (0-3) Pool A 9. Arizona Storm - (1-2) Pool A 9. Club V - (1-2) Pool C 9. Revolution - (2-1) Pool C 9. WAVE - (1-2) Pool C 9. Elevation - (2-1) Pool B 9. Momentous - (1-2) Pool B

Momentous - (1-2) Pool B Pool A traditionally competes against the “Play-in” teams (those that didn’t get seeded in a power pool) in the round of 32 and B competes against C in that round. So often it is 8 from pool A and 8 combined from Pools B & C in the top 16. That is unless a “Play-in” team either upsets a Pool A team or both a Pool B & C team which happened in some of the younger divisions. Power pool placement matters quite a bit on final finish. There have been teams 0-3 from Pool A on day one that end up in the finals. You are set up well if you are in a Power Pool (especially A), not so much if you are in a play-in pool. But the idea of this tournament is great matches from the first whistle and exposure for the athletes to lots of coaches and it does provide both of those things.
