Interesting tidbits from an article from John Cook this week - They've been asked to reduce travel for the non-con... States situations could come down to playing a team like Creighton five times
- Wednesday night B1G matches cut in half in favor of more weekend matches
- More B1G games against regional conference foes, will be an uneven schedule for this season
- Hints that the NCAA tournament could be held differently. One change being discussed is having eight total host sites with eight teams at each site, based on proximity.
- All of the sites from above will be predetermined and Nebraska plans on submitting a host bid

I really like the 8 sites with 8 teams - and then a final 8 for championship week. However, this may come with multiple teams from the same conference in an 8 team site.

I really like the 8 sites with 8 teams - and then a final 8 for championship week. However, this may come with multiple teams from the same conference in an 8 team site. There are things about this that seem counter-productive. That model has 56 teams travel for the opening round. Then 8 Teams travel for the Elite 8. 56+8 = 64 road trips. Compared to the current 48, then 12, then 4. 48+12+4 = 64 road trips. So I don't think it's considerably less travel. Plus, locker rooms are a real issue. Do all of these places have 8 separate locker rooms that can be used? Sharing is a bad idea right now. Unless they want to move the championship earlier (and I'm not sure they'd be able get the arena for the new dates), I don't see the upside of going to the 8 then 8 model.

I don't think there is...

It also opens the door for the committee to have geography influence who gets the last seed spots and last at larges For sure... also opens the debate of taking multi-conf teams at a site.... like you can't separate Texas and Baylor based on geography.... Do you have Lincoln and Madison host, and who gets Minnesota? Or do you give it to sites like UNI and Louisville to open up more variety? How do you split up the PAC or the SEC? lots of questions....

Hooray on halving Wednesday night matches! I'm more likely to have to miss games midweek, so I'm stoked about that development. With each development like this, my hopes that we're going to have some volleyball this fall keep rising. Hopefully they can pull this off safely!

That means less volleyball during the week It bridged the gap between MACtion and Thursday night football for me.

Another nice thing about Wednesday B1G volleyball is that there are fewer games to have to decide between watching than there are on the weekend. With this new shift, the weekend concurrent broadcast viewing decision dilemma is going to be magnified- though admittedly, an awesome problem to have.

Isn't the value of 8 then 8 the fact that a Top 8 team would travel to just 2 locations as opposed to 3? And any Top 16 caliber teams would travel to just 1 location as opposed to the 2 they normally would in other seasons. So, less air/road travel and more time in a controlled environment like a hotel. Point taken on the sharing locker rooms, practice facilities, etc. or even finding enough of those venues in one town to accommodate.

If the seeds held in the current format, 1-4 seeds only travel once (the Final Four), and 5-16 seeds also only travel once (to regionals). This would all be exactly the same under the proposed format.

8/8 scheduling seems more about cost cutting and less about player safety.
