There is increased concern among those I've spoken to that the latest spike will lead the cancellation of the BW season. Some schools, like Long Beach, have been unable to practice this fall, while others have been limited.

I don't doubt this is true, I still just struggle to see how they'll justify the position that basketball is safe but volleyball isn't. Not in regards to caring about Olympic sports, but rather justifying that they aren't putting basketball players in an unsafe environment.

Get 8 conference matches in and a conference tournament so the champion will have played 10 and eligible for the NCAA tournament. Or maybe zero officially scheduled conferences matches. Just a tourney. Then again, Hawaii screws everything up. That single trip would be more than the rest of the season's travel budget combined. All that being said, I never have any actual hope that administrators will be creative.

I'm hopeful we'll get a season but even if we do I think it's important to reiterate the lack of competitive equity, particularly outside the P5 this year. Some BW schools got 8 weeks of practice in this fall, some got zero.

Long Beach didn't practice at all this fall? Could they practice with smaller numbers? I know some SoCal Big West schools were able to practice 3 on 3, but not 6 on 6.

In some places it simply came down to if the university president wanted to allow it.

There were other LA schools practicing, so can’t be a county thing. Anyone know if CSUN was practicing?

Anyone know if CSUN was practicing? Long Beach has their own county health department but I do not know what their health protocols were/are during all of this. The schools that were practicing have money and access which has proved to be problematic in this pandemic for those that don't. This is where the inequities come into play. My understanding was that CSUN was not practicing

That single trip would be more than the rest of the season's travel budget combined. Hawai'i pays for all of its own travel and is still responsible for travel subsidies for visiting teams. The financial scales aren't exactly balanced, to begin with. California just became the first state to record over 100,000 cases in just a week. I miss watching the Wahine but I don't see how the Spring season happens as things in California are likely to get worse before they get better.

Keeping an eye on basketball so far (as of Dec. 6), the Big West has played a total of 29 games so far. Since the start, there have been six games cancelled and two games postponed. Teams have also added five non-conference games to its schedule in the mean time. Also CSUN's women's team has decided to opt out of the 2020-21 season because of the lack of players due to COVID precautions.
Women's volleyball will look a little differently with the understanding of it being conference only, and I can see it being similar to the other conferences of playing two games either at home or away (with Hawaii being the question mark). Seeing this many canceled games in basketball, the more superior financially funded sport, it is definitely concerning in certain parts of California and how this is going to work out. If only this was like the NBA and we can't afford "the bubble".
Men’s Basketball Long Beach State at UCLA (11/30)* UC Riverside at Fresno State (11/30) UC Davis at Cal Baptist (12/8)
Women’s Basketball Cal State Fullerton at UCLA (11/25)* UC Davis vs Simpson (11/28) UC Davis vs Santa Clara (12/3) UC Davis vs Fresno Pacific (12/6) UC Davis at Sacramento State (12/8)
* = Postponed

If only this was like the NBA and we can't afford "the bubble". Even the NBA isn't bubbling going forward. Nobody, not even those being paid tens of millions of dollars to play, are ok with bubbling away from their family for anything more than a couple months.
