To me anyway, this might have been Filip Humler's best match I have seen him play.

One thing that surprised me was Chaz did not play tonight. I like Chaz, but he needs to work on his passing and defense. He has all the making of a star player, and there is no doubt he will be that in the future for the Bows!

Great match, solid setting by Brett until the final minute when he kept setting Cowell and he kept getting stuffed...WTF? Anyway he’s still learning the ropes, he’ll get better, fortunately we were up by 9 at the time. Need to set the middles more, especially when the passing was good tonight.UCI definitely has improved in the blocking department wow! On to Palo Alto.

Hawaii is quite fortunate to have a player of Chaz's quality to go to just in case Filip Humler, or even Colton Cowell has an off night. Not to many teams, if any, has a player like Chaz coming off the bench, sort of speaking.

What is scary for opposing teams is that Hawaii has not played their best match yet. If, or when, they do I would hate to be the opposing team.

Was expecting a win for Hawaii tonight IMO. Also somewhat expected a sweep. Have watched UCI a few times and was left slightly underwhelmed each time. Couple that with Hawaii playing at home, upon being the favorite already. I expected a sweep.
Though it was a sweep. After watching tonight’s performance by UCI the gap between Hawaii and UCI is not huge at all. UCI is one pin hitter short of being scary good. Schneidmiller was no surprise good. But Nsakanda, what a beast. I don’t remember him playing last year, but I think by the time his career at UCI is over he will be for sure an AA. Setting was also better than what I expected, except the untimely service errors were just lethal for UCI. Kam had a tough night, and was surprised he wasn’t subbed out in at least some point in the match. I digress. UCI was impressive though overall. Hopefully, they and Hawaii will be playing on opposite side of the bracket come postseason.
Hawaii was tested tonight, for sure. The one huge positive was their ability to just pull away from UCI when they needed to during sets. Having Rado and Cowell there as your go-to hitters is huge this year for Hawaii. Though I have to say Rado did have a series of unforced hitting errors reminiscent of last year vs. the top teams. I’m not sure if it was the setting or the bad shot selection, or both. But his ability to find success when you have a huge block waiting for you on the OH, albeit a 7 foot blocker, will be critical for UH vs. the top teams. He was unsuccessful in the middle of the match, but I believe we saw him tip in the third set, which was really nice to see. Although there isn’t a LBSU type team that there was last year, BYU, and other top teams will no doubt have a formidable wall in front of Rado as did UCI at times tonight.
There were a few chinks in the armor for Hawaii tonight. But they were just too strong. And were clutch in the end of that first set, and fought there way back after being down very early in the second set, and that was all she wrote, as it looked to have took the sails out of UCI.
Also, in the beginning of the game on segment, Wade alluded to his decisions on the Setter position and reasons for his decision, and mentioned something to the effect that the team has the arms and ability to just go over the block and that was the reason for Thelle starting in the beginning of the season, as his sets are mostly high to the OH. But to get the middles more involved in the offense, he decided to go with Sheward.
Feel bad about Gasman though, I really feel he has the potential to be a NPOY candidate. The setting just hasn’t been enough to give him that opportunity to really shine as he would and should.
Looking forward to see how Hawaii fares vs. Stanford. On the road vs. a team that was expected to be a NC contender, that has so far disappointed, yet still scary.

I wish they would set Humler and Voss more in system. I mean Voss is hitting over .500.

Is Sean Dennis injured?

Good win for Hawaii against a very good UCI team. A few thoughts on last nights match: 1) I felt really bad for local boy JB Kam last night. To come home and stink the place up like that must really hurt. You could tell he was extremely frustrated last night as Hawaii held him to negative .465 hitting. 2) Not Brett's best night setting. His sets were all over the place last night. Mostly too inside and quite a few trap sets. It's a testament to our hitters that they were able to still get kills with such a poor setting night. He needs to work on his serving and defense also. His jump serve is weak. Brett's only a redshirt freshman so he will get better I am sure. 3) Nsakanda is a beast! He was hitting over our block, around our block and through the block all night last night. It's gonna be fun to watch that lefty for 2 more years....4) Humler is such a smart hitter. He sees the block so well and hits high hands nicely when the block is well formed.....I'm happy for him that he got his starting job back and played so well against #4 UCI....

My question is will Bowles, a 6'7 soph lefty ride the bench his entire career playing behind Nsakanda?
