Seems like the MAC in particular has been announcing a lot of cuts. Are they just first movers on this or is there more going on?

Seems like the MAC in particular has been announcing a lot of cuts. Are they just first movers on this or is there more going on? Ohio’s governor has publicly announced cutting $110 million in funding to higher education. The cuts haven’t even been specific to the MAC. Cincinnati dropped men’s soccer. Urbana shut down completely. And a couple of junior colleges announced they wouldn’t have sports this fall. 6 of the 12 MAC schools are in Ohio.

Owens Community College to suspend sports including volleyball through 20-21. Two time defending NC, losing a chance to threepeat?

Sold to Franklin U a few years ago.

A10 reducing conference matches by 25% and the conference tournament down from 6 to 4 teams. I'd look for the A10 to pick up games against the Big East . They have a similar geographic spread and can limit air travel that way.

By the way, while I think this list is interesting and useful, it also does impact recruiting for those schools that aren't closing and people are just speculating about the future. This is kind of like the Jobs thread where people will speculate about coaches leaving. The difference is that the recruits might still consider a school if the coach leaves but will definitely drop a school from their list if they think the school is cancelling the volleyball program. Wait, I think I heard Nebraska is cutting their volleyball program. Maybe even Texas, Stanford and Penn State. Fake news is beneath you. Scaring people.

I don't see it here, but Rollins in Orlando drops men's and women's Cross Country.

BC has had their eye on this asset for decades. they got distracted for a while as the acquired the Cardinal's property from the Boston archdioceses. There will probably be a number of consolidations of this type around the country.

Fun fact: Pine Manor ranked dead last in the 2019 Pablo Rankings for D3. They were swept in all 13 of their matches and the most points they scored in a set was 17 (they lost the next set 25-1). They were single-digited in 23 of their 39 sets.

They were single-digited in 23 of their 39 sets. They did not win a set in 2018 either. But they won 9 matches in 2017! which reminds us that all you need is a few good players in your league to be OK, and more than a few means you might be good!

Only startup costs are some jerseys and men's volleyballs. A 15-athlete roster with 15 kids paying tuition is a net positive for the university. They hired the former Urbana coach, so they might be able to get an immediate influx of those players. Big state schools who don't worry about enrollment will be cutting sports. This won't be unusual for small schools who are looking for ways to boost enrollment.
