I like Evvie (Cause she's the only one being shown lol). I like that there's a ton of different personalities. I dont like the risk your vote twist... i think its dumb to have it more than once. I dont mind the shot in the dark... Xander got screwed with his "advantage" I think its interesting, intentional or not.. that Yase is going (or trying) to be Matsing 2.0

I think the cast is fairly good, though it's early, and I'm almost always pretty high on the casts of even bad seasons after only a couple of episodes because I haven't seen enough to dislike yet. I liked the modified prisoner's dilemma in the first episode, but I didn't like that they reused it in the next episode. And I really hope they don't continue to do the exact same thing, though I don't have much faith in that. It's already been solved, and there will potentially be a lot of extra votes in the game (three already). The shot in the dark is interesting. I think Yase has the potential to be one of the worst tribes in Survivor history. I'm doubtful that an intentional Matsing will work, but I guess we'll see. My favorite players on each tribe are Shan and JD on Ua, Danny on Luvu, and Xander on Yase, though he might not be long for the game. I hope Shan wins.

Did you have a chance to watch the premiere yet? Yes, watched both episodes so far. I like JD…he’s a talker, and a player. Because of it, he’s also a target. Hope he last through to the merge. Was surprised to see Ricard get a vote from Genie in the first tribal, not sure I like Ricard after the second episode. Have to watch him some more throughout the season. I do not like players like Tiffany. Should have been voted off but is able to survive episode after episode. Some I can cheer on, but not for Tiffany. Don’t know why. Sad to see Voce get voted off. He reminds me of Johnny Galecki from the Big Bang Theory. I 100% would have voted out Tiffany over Abraham and definitely over Voce. Tiffany is a liability in every way imaginable. I haven't been that frustrated by a vote since the Millennials idiotically decided to leave an obvious showmance (Taylor and Figgy) in the game and voted out Mari.

I dont think Matsing'ing is intentional... but it could be genius if it was. But it's not in Evvie's best interest to do that and I dont think Tiffany is capable of doing it lol They know they're going to be at a disadvantage numbers wise come the swap/merge... might as well Matsing their way, become the swing vote. No better way to do it than to get rid of their tribe's strongest players. Force them to need you.

No better way to do it than to get rid of their tribe's strongest players. Force them to need you. Well, Voce said that after the first vote, most of the people on the tribe were talking about doing an intentional Matsing, which seems insane to me. As he pointed out, if four people are talking about doing an intentional Matsing, only two of them will actually make it through. And even if you think you have the numbers, all it takes is one idol (or one shot in the dark that hits) to send you out of the game. In general, it's a bad idea to try to go to tribal council early on. And while, yes, it worked out for Matsing, there are other examples of tribes that kept voting out strength that didn't end well. Eyyvie in particular reminds me a lot of Sherri in Caramoan. I mean, sure, she was running the fans tribe pre-swap, but she had no chance to win. Lex did this in All Stars as well. I don't know. I also think Eyyvie gave Deshawn way too much information, especially since Xander didn't actually go home. But I guess we'll see how it works out. Edit: Of course, there could be a swap before it gets down to the last two, which could potentially bail the remaining Yase members out. Though my dream is for Yase to get Ulonged with its final two members being forced to go to a fire-making challenge a la Steph and Bobby Jon in Palau.

A heads up for carsonvega and anyone else wanting to watch Aussie surivovr... Paramount+ has seasons 4-6 on it now. (note these seasons will have spoilers from the earlier seasons)
Thanks for letting me know. I am not subscribed to a bunch of separate streaming services at this point, but I might get Paramount+ at some point, I guess.
I have not managed to watch a ton of Aussie Survivor or even US Survivor Season 41 as of yet. Big work assignment and also just haven't felt great health-wise in the last couple of weeks, such that most of my participation on all of VT has been a few minutes for the PTW contests.

Apparently, it's a blood vs. water season as well. It's very much a money/attention grab. russell hantz was on one of their seasons as well. I think she'll be fine... either its a nice vacation.. or she gets help from production (aussie production is very active).. plus she didnt do too bad in her last outing... got swap screwed. It's blood vs water... but its different. One tribe will have relatives, while the other wont.

She's a great player, but I'm sure she's getting a hefty appearance fee. Even if she gets voted out right away, as you said, it's a nice vacation, and her loved one still gets to play. I'll admit that I didn't have much interest in watching Australian Survivor, as I still have a few US seasons to watch. But this is one of my two favorite players ever, along with Tony. So I'll definitely tune in for as long as she's on the show, and then I guess I'll see if I have any interesting in continuing to watch.

Thanks. Work kind of shifted to a holding pattern unexpectedly and I am feeling a bit better now, so I caught up on the first 3 episodes of Survivor 41.
The shot in the dark twist is interesting and I like it as an option when there are so many potential advantages and idols floating around. Did they say what's the last tribal council that the shot in the dark can be used? Final 6?
The multi-/shared idol with the weird phrases having to be said at challenges, on the other hand, is not good. If I was going to play in an upcoming season, I think I wouldn't open any advantage with a "beware" note unless I was sure that they were not using the multi-/shared idol. Broadcasting to literally everyone that you are either trying to communicate something in code or are just weird is not worth it so early in the game (and I think everyone will figure out that it's about hidden idols shortly if they haven't already). And losing your vote at every tribal council until the merge is just way too much of a disadvantage, especially when the shot in the dark and extra vote advantages require having your main vote available first, as Voce said in that interview you linked. There are so many other disadvantages they could have instead of losing one's main vote that would still be significant. The disadvantage could be a forced sit-out of a tribal challenge where playing a person down is a real problem (so not running an obstacle course one by one like in Episode 3, but something like having to move 100 sandbags or transport something heavy around a course like the cannon in Pearl Islands or the dummy in Thailand, etc.) Or they could add specific tasks in tribal challenges that the disadvantaged person has to complete alone. Or they could force sit-out in post-merge individual immunity challenges assuming the person with the disadvantage makes it that far. Or they could make the disadvantaged players skip rewards. Etc. Any of those would have been a better option than having multiple strategies/advantages regarding using votes and needing a main vote, but then taking that main vote away.
Thinking about Voce again, I think he was right to want to do the triangle puzzle rather than the water carry in Episode 1 - especially knowing now that the producers are also going to play with taking the tribe's flint away after they lose challenges. I think a smart way to do the triangle puzzle would be to have everyone in the tribe come up with an answer and write it down secretly and independently, then mix all the guesses up and read them publicly one by one. Getting several answers for the same number that were arrived at completely independently increases the likelihood that that number is correct. And the opening process would allow someone to speak up to defend their answer if they were sure they were right, but say little if they didn't want everyone to think they were dumb. The whole process would take way less than 4 hours. And in the event the tribe got it wrong...they haven't lost much if they end up losing the next challenge anyway. Doing the water carry only makes sense if the tribe gets to keep their flint permanently.
As for the possible intentional Matsing...the Yase tribe may be trying it but I don't think it is likely to succeed - or at least, it shouldn't. Tiffany's performance on the balance beam was so bad that the other tribes could fairly assume that her surviving the tribal council after that came down to either A) her having an idol/ advantage; or B) her having a strong alliance. Either way, that's an alarm bell that should raise the threat level of the remaining members of the Yase tribe, except for anyone who could plausibly claim they had nothing to do with saving Tiffany (*cough* Xander *cough*). I also think it should be (or have been, given the season wrapped filming months ago already) difficult to make the other tribes believe Yase is not threatening after Tiffany confidently proclaimed at the nighttime tarp vs. steal-a-vote summit/prisoner's dilemma that she could make it through the next tribal council if Yase lost (and Sydney seemed to pick up on that right away). For Evvie or Liana, if they made it through the intentional Matsing with Tiffany (or if Yase would make a reduction to two tribes or the merge with all three of them left), there's an additional risk that everyone on the other tribes quickly picks up on the likelihood of Tiffany being easy to beat at the end, and decides to cut them (Evvie and/or Liana) out to make sure Tiffany doesn't have other options and can be taken to the end where she would get zero/very few votes, like Caramoan Sherri as you mentioned above. In other words, for an intentional Matsing to work, it seems like the players left at the end of it have to at least appear like they survived because they were the fittest at challenges, not because of any super strategy/alliance/advantages/idols.

Good analysis. I think the triangle puzzle is a trap, but other than that, I pretty much agree on everything. I especially agree with your analysis of the Yase tribe and whether the dubious idea of an intentional Matsing would work. In addition to what you already said, if I was Deshawn, it would not escape my notice that the women on Yase seem to be systematically eliminating the men (Abraham was voted out first, and then Voce went home after Eyyvie already told Deshawn that Xander was the target). Since Deshawn is a man, I would be concerned about working with Eyvvie post-merge if I was him. Oh, and as far as the shot in the dark goes, I'm not sure when it expires, though final six seems like a reasonable assumption given that this is when the extra votes expire. I hope that's the case for the idols as well, as I think it's a design flaw to have idols work through final five at the same time that the fire-making at final four exists. I think all idols and advantages need to expire by final six so that everyone has to get through at least one vote in a traditional way (either by winning the individual immunity challenge or by surviving the vote on the strength of their social and/or strategic game).

That was a very good episode of Survivor. I'll hold off on my detailed thoughts until tomorrow, as it hasn't aired on the West Coast yet.
