Setting fires like this does serious damage to the movement. People will see them as thugs who want to steal and destroy instead of people whose anger has boiled over. Doing battle with police or having riots that don't involve stuff like looting is forgivable by most, I think. People won't take kindly to the fires and broken windows though.

Somewhat agree, but also trying to understand the grieving in the black community. People are dying for no reason at all, other than racism, frankly. This keeps happening over, and over, and over again. It is unacceptable. Period. This should never happen again.

To βthe black lives mattersβ credit, they encouraged peaceful protesting and most left before this began. They tried. You are absolutely right though. So sad! This is exactly what the family of the victim did not want.

I'd be out in the streets right now if I lived in a city (in a mask and a safe distance, of course). I'm saying this because I was talking to my Dad and that's what he was expressing to me, and he was disturbed enough by the video that he was thrown off all day. Even though he's a bleeding heart Dem, he's still put off by the looting.

This is a mixed crowd protesting. Unclear about who is setting fires, too.
I can't help but question the motives of the looters. But I say that as a white man who cannot possibly know for sure what is in peoples' hearts.

Very interesting video here. You don't see this type of thing often at these protests.

I hope the looters and rioters are still practicing social distancing during the looting and rioting.

Even though he's a bleeding heart Dem, he's still put off by the looting. Trust me, as well, I get that too. I can't stand the looting, let alone setting buildings on fire. They had nothing to do with it. It's not right. There are more effective ways to get things done (peaceful protest).

This is a tricky one. Wow. Idealism vs. realism. Red(neck) panthers? lmaoooooo π I meant idealism (society where assault rifles are not necessary) vs. realism (protecting buildings from looting using assault rifles as intimidation). Certainly a rare instance, in this case, but nonetheless.

Way to go. They just totally lost the moral high ground.
Idiots.
