I heard only one from SA… Not sure I’m supposed to say names. So he’s getting 2 from TAV 16BLACK, 2 from DN 16RED, 1 from SKYLINE 16ROYAL, 3 or 4 from MF 16 GREEN, 1 from Alamo, and a few others I’m not sure about. Who’s the person other than Ames did he get from tab 16 black? It can’t be Pitts, Boatner, Young, or Edwards just from social media bios I’ve seen

July 12 is signing day in the North Texas Region and on that day, I have a feeling a photo or roster will be posted of the almost full group on social for everyone to see.

Ping has put together a dream team with some of the best 2024’s in the DFW and SA areas. The top two teams in the Dallas area for the coming club season will most likely be Drive Nation 17 Red and TAV 17 Black. Next season Ping is going to work his team hardest ever because this is probably the only year he didn’t make the gold bracket. I remember hearing almost this exact thing last year when Ping took over 17's at DN and grabbed some MF and TAV kids. It was all the buzz that it would be the best team in 17's. They took 19th at Nationals. Started the year ranked #1. To be fair, they had an injury to a pretty significant player at Nationals that really derailed things for them. You feel like that shouldn't matter to the degree it did but that lineup at 17s was brutal and the difference for many teams was inches. That loss was big in terms of what they do on their team and trying to sort that mid match in the pool they were in is really tough to work out on the fly or even in the next game or 2. I do know he's driven this coming year but the 19th outcome is not a reflection at all of that team. Nationals is skill, but a lot of luck is involved and getting unlucky at the wrong time can really stunt our outcome. This wasn't as much a scenario of underperforming as it was really bad luck (and i know injuries are part of the game, etc.).

I get trying to create top teams, but if you're only keeping 2 of your own and have to pull 8-10 kids from other clubs, I gotta scratch my head. I disagree… Many kids on the previous 16-1 team were good, but not Ping level. If you want to be the best you need the best players.

I know they went 4-1 day 1 and 2, but what after that? What was the reason that they did so poorly besides injury?

OH went down on day 3 and they were in a pool with Coast and Austin Juniors, both solid teams. AJV had actually beaten DN earlier in the season when DN was at full strength. Those teams are tough because you play them so many times a season and get to know them that things happen. Anyway, OH goes down and in the first match and they go 0-2 and then don't make it to a gold challenge match....they drop to a silver crossover. They win that and play in bronze and first match is A5 and they didn't have enough size without the OH to be able to do much against A5. To be fair, the other two teams in bronze were Metro 17 and Legacy which is crazy that that was the bronze bracket.

I agree on the point that if you want to be the best, you have to have the best players. But why aren't the players playing at the club before 17s? Do the other top team coaches not train well enough to get younger players in the door, and then train them to be good enough? Every year a team has turnover, but only keeping 2 kids from the previous roster really seems extreme. I will say I'm not in the NTR so maybe that's just the way it always works there.

Well Drive Nation is a new club so they’re not as “established” as TAV or MF or SKYLINE. But this coming up year it seems that it will be different. Jason Nicholson’s 16-1 team is going to be incredible and from what I am hearing will not have too much other competition because the TAV 16 BLACK team feel apart. Jacob Hanan’s 14s and 15s are also going to be very good. I assume the 18s would be good too but I don’t know about that.

This is and extreme case but also understand that the club director at drive has only been there 2 years (this will be his third) and this is Ping's second year so the coaching tree from top to bottom has changed a lot over the last two years and the club is very much in transition building into something new. The club overall is fairly new and has had leadership changes a couple of times in its short history. This seems to be the vision that Jermaine had for the club originally and feels like the most stable path forward. I don't love it but the path forward is painful and that has included some players being let go. There are lots of facets to this story and I'm torn on it but the bottom line is, the coaches that are there now, are well equipped to train kids at the younger age. You also have a regionality factor that many of the upper upper tier kids from the west side of the metroplex had been driving an hour plus to play at elite clubs for elite coaches because there wasn't an option in the west portion of the Metroplex. Drive is solving that and with having Ping at DN, many of the kids that were driving are now staying because they can get the same level training and be on an elite team but not have to drive as far. It's not how it works here to only keep 2 but TAV, where this group comes from, has been known to cut big chunks of teams. They had a team a few years ago at TAV win nationals and the next day cut half the team. It's really tough. Not all clubs are this way and many do retain. This group for Ping has kind of been a perfect storm brewing where lots of things had to happen to have this much movement and they all happened.

Looks like Ayden Ames will be playing for Ping! Just added Drive Nation to her social media since tryout season began today Ping has put together a dream team with some of the best 2024’s in the DFW and SA areas. The top two teams in the Dallas area for the coming club season will most likely be Drive Nation 17 Red and TAV 17 Black. Next season Ping is going to work his team hardest ever because this is probably the only year he didn’t make the gold bracket. Now how exactly is Grace Carrol going to drive from SA to Drive Nation for practice? That is nuts and why? Already got Baylor locked in. Seems a bit over the top especially when his team this year didnt even win it all so its not a given. Unless she is moving to D/FW?

Yeah, this a little over the top but she could very well be moving to the DFW area. We have girls in Illinois that drive 2-3 hours one way for practice. It is a commitment.
