I won't say news, but status: Next youth non-cancelled tourneys, per their website: 14/16u: June 30, Long Beach 14/16/18u: July 9, Manhattan Beach, July 10 Santa Monica. My son was at MB yesterday, said there was one net up. Not sure if it was BYON though.

The whole South Bay is BYON. Where I played yesterday, Hermosa 1st Street, all of the courts were gone by 9AM. I did not see an open court from 1st to 8th.

Sounds like Orange County is allowing youth sports to resume under the day camp guidelines issue by the state. Not sure if any clubs are going to resume some sort of practice or clinics (I believe they are limited to groups of 12). Hopefully clubs can be creative (grass courts even) and let the boys get some play in.

Our club in SoCal begins beach workouts this week with strict guidelines in place as dictated by SCVA and LA County and multiple waivers signed.

Our LA City club has started 1 on 1's with last year's coach - basically a private, but no fee, for the -1s/2s players (specified b/c we go to -9s on the girls side). Privates will be available once court demand subsides, a bit. No group practices yet - we've been told they will phase it to 1 (coach) to 2 players, then 4, then 11, as they ramp back up.

We heard yesterday 949 is trying to put together a "Summer League", essentially kind of a round robin scrimmage series running July 1 - July 22 with the associated recommended safety measures. (excluding July 4th weekend)
Hoping 949, OCVC, MB Surf, hoping others will participate to give the boys some touches and high level competition. Unsure how many teams will have interest, but I personally am happy a club is trying to start something.... anything actually.... that helps move volleyball into playing again.

Have any of these openings been curtailed due to the spike of the virus out there?

The 949 Sumer League was postponed until July 20th to respect the 3 weeks Newsom announcement. OCVC, MB Surf, Rockstar and 949 have teams to play one another at each age level. Pools of 4 teams, Small round robin, and I think playoffs the third week. 3 week "tourney" so to speak.
We will see if July 20th brings another postponement.
