Battle for the last spot in the Big East - East
Providence - clinches with two wins over Villanova Villanova - clinches with two wins over Providence
If they split, things get interesting...
If UConn goes 2-0 against Seton Hall, Providence wins the 3-way tie-breaker by going 3-1 against VU and UConn.
If UConn and Seton Hall split, we’ll have a 2-way tie between VU and PC. It’ll come down to set record and point differential of this weekends matches.
If Seton Hall goes 2-0 against UConn, we’ll have a 3-way tie between SHU, PC and Nova. All teams went 2-2 in head to head matches. SHU would be 8-10 in sets, so there is no way they can come out first. Nova would have to win in 3 and lose in 5 to equal Providence’s set record. If they do that, they’d almost definitely win the points tie breaker since they were like +20 against Seton Hall despite being 5-5 in sets.
Villanova leads 1-0 and 21-16 UConn leads 1-0 and 23-22

The Air Friars take the 3rd set. And we're going five in Rhode Island. Providence pulls off the reverse sweep -- comes back from an 8-11 deficit in the 5th set to win 15-12.

I have a strange feeling that there's only one copy and it's bound in leather and buried in a musty dungeon underneath Georgetown.

I tried to scavenge for one and couldn't find anything official. Just press releases from the schools in past years.

I assumed it’s head to head matches then head to head sets.

So based on what I believe to be the tie-breakers, Villanova needs:
- NOVA win 3-0 or 3-1 OR 3-2 with a better than +7 point differential; AND - Seton Hall win over UConn

Just took a look at the box score... Nova hit .500 in the 4th set and .400 in the 5th and lost them both. Wow.

So I was reading through Creighton's notes for previous matches...
The League made the decision to reclassify the CU/MU non-con matches are conference matches. "The BIG EAST notified both Creighton and Marquette on Feb. 25th that the matches between the schools on Feb. 5-6 in Omaha will be counted as conference matches after all."
Also the league champion will only be recognized as the team that wins the tournament, not as winners of either division.
