Under Armour wants out of its record-breaking deal with UCLA. As first reported by the Los Angeles Times, the athletic brand has alerted the university that it wants to terminate the current $280 million, 15-year contract, which was signed in 2016. The company said: “Under Armour has recently made the difficult decision to discontinue our partnership with UCLA, as we have been paying for marketing benefits that we have not received for an extended time period. The agreement allows us to terminate in such an event and we are exercising that right." The deal ranks as the highest price shoe and apparel sponsorship in college sports history, so it’s no surprise that UCLA won’t be going down without a fight. In addition, its athletic department is already facing significant financial hurdles. www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/under-armour-wants-280-million-193223425.html

That's a tough hit for UCLA in so many ways.
And, after this, which schools would ever want to consider joining forces with UA again knowing they could try to pull the rug from underneath them, as well.
Who are the other Under Armour schools? Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Cal, Utah, Auburn, Texas Tech, and South Carolina come to mind. I don't think there are many.

The list is actually bigger than I thought it would be, of course this is just a wiki list

While loosing this money would really hurt, I think at the end of the day, the two others main outfitters are an upgrade in terms of apparel.

I posted this in the Pac thread, but judging from the UA website, it looks like the brand is also trying to tear up the Cal contract.

The thing is, in this current state where all companies are trying to tighten their belts, it will be difficult for the other shoe companies to fork over money to UCLA that will compare to what UA was paying them.
UA offered Texas a bigger deal financially than what Nike was offering to renew with them a few years ago, but Texas stayed with Nike.

UA shoes are terrible. I've never had good experiences with them and I've heard from lots of others about their struggles with them too

This might be the era for intercollegiate athletics to start reining in their expenditures.
Not only reducing freshman participation, but, lowering the number of scholarships/grants awarded in every sport.
Currently WVB is at 12 headcount Currently FBS FB is at 85 headcount Currently FCS FB is at 63 equivalency

Did you not read any of the posts in the entire thread you made about it? Silly idea.

Got it.

Obviously UCLA won't have trouble getting another sponsor, but as has been stated, they might not get as much moolah as they would like.
And if you're looking to cut costs, FB and BB are not going to take any hits because they're part of the "Arms Race" in athletics, so those cuts will slide downhill to the other sports.

Maybe UCLA WVB can upgrade to Mizuno.

So does UA want to leave because UA is in a major downfall or because UCLA isn't performing?
