This is getting interesting... will Trump really take executive action?
Extra benefits have now been expired for ~2 weeks.

He can probably extend the eviction moratorium, but I don't think there's much else he can do. Maybe CARES money that wasn't already distributed can be more forcefully used?

He could pay everyone from his vast personal fortune.
Oh, wait.

He could pay everyone from his vast personal fortune. Oh, wait. He could take the 150 million that Tim Walz asked for to rebuild Minneapolis and apply toward the economic stimulus. The irony of the situation - more than a few of the dumbasses who set fire, looted, and destroyed their own city were most probably receiving benefits from the first economic stimulus package.

And, as usual, the liberals on this forum continue to steer the conversation towards Trump, instead of dealing with the real roadblock in this situation - idiot Pelosi and idiot Schumer and their idiot drones in both houses.
Acting in their own best political interests instead of helping people out.
How many riders do you think Pelosi will attempt to wedge thru on this next legislation? Do you think she'll try to sneak in the Kennedy Center again?
How about that permanent loan forgiveness on student debt clause? That makes so much sense. Hey I took a student loan out in 2002 and I'm still paying on it, but Auntie Nancy says she's gonna let me off the hook for the rest of it! BONUS!

I brought up Trump being able to pass an executive order as a potential good thing, for those people that need that immediate assistance. I don't know who exactly to blame directly in the negotiations, but, it's true that many of the Republicans can't agree on the stimulus bill terms, and it didn't help they were late to propose it after unemployment benefits expired.

okay even if one were to agree with the republican notion that people have a disincentive to work with the $600, how many employers are actually hiring right now? they have this crazy notion that if people would just look hard enough they can land a job. Well, I checked Indeed.com and there's a ton of jobs out there.

House Democrats passed a bill to extend the benefits on July 1. The Senate GOP refused to work with the House at all. They still haven't even voted on a Senate act (except for a couple of show votes asking for unanimous consent). But somehow certain people here think the delay is due to the House Democrats?
The real stumbling block is the significant number of GOP Senators who think there should be no extension at all. If McConnell wanted, he could easily get the votes in the Senate to pass the House bill, but that would mean allowing a bill to pass that was mainly supported by Senate Democrats with only a few Senate Republicans. He would rather see the country burn in flames than allow that to happen.

Retail businesses, bars, and restaurants all shuttered. Most people out of work. House Economic Stimulus Bill. May 2020 - August 2020. 3.4 Trillion. COVID19 crisis management is improving. Positive cases leveling off nationwide. Businesses re-opening where state mandates allow. Unemployment going down. People returning to work. So, can someone that's good with money and math help us out here? Why do you need to spend MORE MONEY when there is LESS CRISIS to manage? Socialism, anyone?

Or, you could tell Aunt Nancy to lower the price and stop buying so much ice cream for all the states who don't really need more ice cream right now.

They could be $5 from agreeing on an amount and neither side would budge. So infuriating. Both sides are to blame.
