They could be $5 from agreeing on an amount and neither side would budge. So infuriating. Both sides are to blame. Nope -- and you know I love you -- but it's this "both sides are to blame" that is infuriating. Unless you don't mean 50/50.

Yes, the Democrats are to blame for the Republican Senate being unable to pass a Republican bill.

There's a way this is supposed to work. House passes a bill. Senate passes a different bill. They go to "reconciliation" and work out something, then bring those back to the individual houses.
But that process does not give McConnell as much control as he wants, and it leaves him vulnerable to having the Senators from his own party publicly undercut him. Plus, the GOP in the Senate hasn't been able to pass their own bill anyway.

I see no one wants to tackle the "why are we spending more now?" question.
Figures.
Blame the Republicans. Blame Trump.
Same as always.

The first package got us from job numbers as bad as the great depression to job numbers as bad as the 2008 crash, and there's still a goddamn pandemic going on. States are facing massive budget shortfalls regardless of party, unemployment is 10% (with growth already slowing), and the uptick in cases in the fall is going to bring us back to mid-may or early June levels of economic problems.

America has always helped cities rebuild after wars we have helped destroy (Berlin, for one). I think we can help rebuild our own cities.

Post World War II recovery should not be compared to anything that happened as a result of riots and looting from protests that have occurred in the past 2 months.

Also, any kind of economic stimulus and COVID19 relief package should be focused on where it's needed the most - on the people who are unemployed and/or need financial help, as well as the private businesses who cannot operate due to state restrictions (restaurants, bars, gyms, indoor venues that host weddings/graduations/large gatherings/etc.).
Why is there so much in the proposed House bill that goes directly to state governments? If your state was operating on a shoestring budget and/or in bad shape financially before COVID19 or living hand-to-mouth at the state budget level, don't look to the federal government to take on your debt. Fix it yourself. That had absolutely nothing to do with the pandemic.

Massive federal spending, if every other crash in history is to be our benchmark. And guess which party is promoting more spending? Hello, is anyone home? ? Spending is the answer. It's the reason the Great Depression/2008 crash/any other number of crashes were fixed. The government has the ability to either help companies pay their workers or create jobs on its own.
