It’s been mentioned on the podcast and also the court two commentary that Jeff Alzina is the winningest coach in AVP history with 1100 victories. First, who is keeping track of this, and who is in second place? Second, how is this even possible? That would be 36+ wins per season for 30 years. Is he counting individual matches won? That’s still pretty incredible.

I’m skeptical.

It is individual matches over the course of an 18 year coaching career that Jeff is counting. He's worked with some very impressive teams in that time. Jeff is the one who has done the math. Nobody else has double checked or challenged it that I am aware of. And its fun to say.

Regarding Alzina, he's been with so many talented athletes and has brought winning at different levels in beach and indoor. Any quality professional would keep records/data to show their success. It leads to bigger and better opportunities. He's been with some good talent like, Jennifer Fopma, Brooke Sweat, Misty, Kerri. More recently, Hailey Harward, Long Beach St., UCLA Beach (McNamaras, Sponcil, Van Winkle, Muno, Simo, etc.), and quite a few other notable Men's players/teams. I don't know him personally, but I'd have to say he's pretty good at what he does. I enjoyed the commentary by Alzina on Court 2. He's got great insight to the game and is current on the athletes, history of the game, and all the nuances involved. It made the outer-court experience far better than in recent years. If they had more courts streaming I'd hope AVP would throw Mati Bishop and even robonthemic into the mix (I got to hear rob on the p1440 streams and the Collegiate Beach events). Just my 2 cents.
