Why is Callie not in the starting lineup? She was most of last year I thought she can't kill a ball Caffey and Meyer are going to compete for that spot I think so too!

I thought Maddie, Riley, Kalynn, Lauren, & Emma played well. Setting is not where I was hoping, but Nicklin was better than she was last year, so there is that. While I see improvements, I see the same blaring issues too. Poor passing, poor receiving, mostly predictable setting. I really look forward to seeing Lexi, Lauren, Riley, Maddie, & Kalynn. I thought Kalynn had plenty of arm to start, & her defense was great, really covers a lot of space.

Well that was entertaining! Interesting that Cook says Nebraska is NOT playing a non-conference slate and any long-distance travel is largely discouraged because of financial reasons. If Nebraska, who markets and brings in more money for volleyball than any other program is closing in for just a few conference teams, I have a hard time seeing how the at large teams are selected via any "objective" measure like the RPI. Right the RPI is going to be messed up. Even if everyone knows the B1G (and P12) are the best, the RPI won't show it. So win or finish damn high in your conference if you want an at-large spot. There is a very good chance that the at-larges will be distributed evenly between regions this year. (Also will decrease travel) Several B1G teams will get screwed--so no let downs in conference play, it could be devastating.

And it’s why they did it. When you’re historically the best conference, bids based on reputation is always going to be better than having to earn it through non-conference wins.

I don't disagree with the notion that going conference-only and possibly relying on prior history to complete at-large selections absolutely benefits the B1G (and the PAC).
But I think this is a bigger decision than just "volleyball". The Big Ten announced today that softball and baseball will be conference only. I can't speak for baseball, but that's not a move that really *helps* the B1G given their history of at-larges in softball.

Was watching for newbs and I have to say that #20 and #6 on the Red team were fun to watch. They don't look like frosh. #3 on White team was extremely impressive as well what can't she do?
Good times, excited about this team.

Considering how this young freshman preformed in this Red/White scrimmage, I think Callie is in a tight spot. This girl is an aggressive player and can only get better, a LOT better. GBR

Does everybody still think K. Meyer is way behind in development? I didn't see it last night. I think her athleticism/strength will carry her to new heights. I think Caffey would have looked even better with better sets. I think Meyers attitude alone will take her a long ways. She will develop what ever way she has to to get that spot,,,,IMHO

I want to see Kayla with the starters. If she's even a serviceable blocker, just the threat of her arm is going to open up so much real estate for our pins. That's under the assumption that we give her just enough looks that it cannot be ignored by opposing defenses.

I respect her(Kayla) offense, but I question the real gains when we don't have a back row that can get the ball to the setter who has been horrible at setting middles even with a perfect pass.
I think the stat to find is blocks & good block touches
Was it my imagination or was Riley doing pretty good at hitting over the top of the block? I thought Maddie improved from last year as well.
