Not sure what CAL POLY's three senior will do at the end of their academic year,...2021. (Big West Conf. has decided to suspend playing the entire year) Will Maia Dvoracek (Communications major), Madilyn Mercer (Art & Design major) & Jamie Stivers (Child Dev. major) return to play one more quarter,...at least??? What will happen to the three signed NLI freshmen if the seniors want to play in the fall of 2021??? Has the NCAA given players of teams opting out in 2020 another year of eligibility??? All 20-21 fall athletes receive another year of eligibility except those at Cal Poly.

Athletes that participate in the 2020-21 volleyball season won't use one of their four seasons of competition. So in effect, Pac-12 athletes that participate this spring WILL get an extra season (they'll have 6 years to play 5 seasons), Big West athletes will still be permitted to only play 4 seasons (in 6 years).

Since we're now nitpicking, not every athlete gets 6 years. In reality, only athletes that redshirt one year (except 20-21) get six years to play their four years of eligibility. If you never redshirt, your max years if five.

Everybody else is allowed to play 5 seasons. They only get 4. (Also, in your example, their clock does still get extended, they just can't play indoor volleyball that last year. They CAN play beach in that 6th year)

The intent was that no fall athlete would lose an opportunity for four "normal" seasons of competition and technically not the opportunity for four seasons plus a freebie. I suspect they anticipated that some schools would not have a season in certain sports which is happening in both FCS football and volleyball along with most seasons being reduced in some manner. Basically if you got to play this year, it was a bonus. Pretty sure they only get their clock extended from 5 years to 6 in order to play their 4th year of eligibility in the sport they were playing in 20-21.

According to the match commentator the other day, Ulmer said Borup is most likely playing again in the fall.

It might have to be an except from the NCAA, but I can’t see the ncaa deny any athlete this past year.

Actually Ivy league players do get an additional year, just not at an Ivy league school. If they would like to pursue a graduate degree at a non-Ivy school they would have a year of eligibility.

Ivy League players will get a 6th calendar year to play 4 seasons of competition.
Players in conferences other than the Ivy League and Big West will get 6 calendar years to play 4 seasons PLUS the 2020-21 season (which doesn’t count towards the 4).

This is not what the NCAA COVID action chart says. “ Self-apply a one-year extension of eligibility for fall sport student-athletes who either do not compete or who qualify for a season-of-competition waiver for 2020-21;” ncaaorg.s3.amazonaws.com/compliance/d1/D1GOV_COVID-19ActionChart.pdfPage 3

You are saying that current players will have 6 to play 4 similar to the traditional 5 years to play 4. What I was just saying is that a player won't be able to utilize the 6th year if they don't have a non-2021 redshirt year because they will have finished their eligibility in 5 years. Similar to in a non-2021 world, a player that plays their first four years doesn't get the 5th year.
