Sorry, just sorta jumping in here without reading the whole thread. So... what's the deal with Minnesota? Do the seniors have any recourse? Transfer to anywhere that has scholarship money available. The NCAA is allowing institutions to allocate more money to scholarships for all sports for next season, but there is no way to tell any school that they have to do that. Not for transfers. Seniors are only exempt from the scholarship limit (12) if they remain at the same school they were at during fall 2020. If they transfer, they will count against the total scholarship allocation.

It was stated in the Minneapolis newspaper today that our AD said 'no' to extending scholarships for athletes, except for a few scholarships in football. So, Samedy and Pittman will have to transfer somewhere else to continue to play beyond this spring. Teams that welcome their seniors back will have a decided advantage over teams that don't. I don't disagree however if you have a large class coming in this has all sorts of potential for team issues. Just looking at Nebraska's incoming class, a couple of those kids have the ability to displace a three year senior starter. Kids don't like to sit anymore, not that they ever did but kids aren't willing to compete for playing time anymore.

If there is a conflict between an incoming NLI-promised scholarship and a returning SR scholarship-player, and there is no extension to the scholarship limit, something has to give. I just think that a blanket refusal to invite returning SRs back could be disadvantagous, especially if it means lopping off a key player (Samedy?). That said, many programs view a 5th-year scholarship as a "reward" to be given, if deserved.

So as of right now, Pressley is the only big name who has confirmed she's returning? And no other big name has stated that they are not returning?

From a player's standpoint, if I'm a 5th year senior who has their degree, why stay if I can go overseas and make money playing where I could be an injury away from not ever being able to do that?

There is nothing wrong with you making that choice. Others might want to choose to complete their eligibility, if given the opportunity. I'm just saying that a blanket-denial of that opportunity might hurt a program's current competitiveness and future recruiting. That said, programs with more commits than available scholarships, with no expansion of the scholarship limit, are likely going to have to either turn one or more recruits away or push out one or more scholarship players with eligibility remaining.

Meghan McClure is graduating after the spring and will not return to Stanford in the fall. I hope she gets to compete during her senior season.

wow... Not sure how I feel. Happy for the Utes, but I wanna them two on the pro circuit. I would definitely see the both of them turn pro immediately after the fall.

Not sure what CAL POLY's three senior will do at the end of their academic year,...2021. (Big West Conf. has decided to suspend playing the entire year)
Will Maia Dvoracek (Communications major), Madilyn Mercer (Art & Design major) & Jamie Stivers (Child Dev. major) return to play one more quarter,...at least???
What will happen to the three signed NLI freshmen if the seniors want to play in the fall of 2021???
Has the NCAA given players of teams opting out in 2020 another year of eligibility???
