Surprised Freeman was picked last. She looked good and better than Holston at opposite during the scrimmage.

Hooker doesn’t support the USA league and wouldn’t play even if she’s asked. says who Hooker mentioned in a live stream that she couldn't care less about the American league, that the athletes still won't get neither the respect nor the money that they would get overseas and that America has a lot of problems right now so this is the least of her worries. Also mentioned looking forward to retiring in about two seasons. I had tuned in to see her son lol, who knew I was gonna get all that

Is it just me or does this whole exercise remind you of high school PE class at the gym where some students were assigned as team leaders have to pick their teams for...dodge ball or something. Being picked last was awkward in high school, can't imagine how being picked last here would feel...ouch Any good PE teacher would just assign the last 4-5 kids to a team!

On first glance, I thought OH's/Setters were going to be heavily favored for the points.... guess not? That's good to see Yeah, it sounded like they put a bit of work into a scoring system that would be reasonably even regardless of position (v important given how captains + bonus money work). Won't know for sure until we're a couple of weeks in how that actually plays out.
One thing to remember is how the win points add up. In softball there were a handful of players that were pretty high up in the standings simply by contributing to winning teams. Sweep a match and you get 180 points just for being on the team - now if you don't really contribute much then you'll fall behind your productive teammates, but play with the stats a bit and figure out how well someone would have to play to rack up 180 points from on-court efforts. It's a pretty good way to balance things out further and help make up for the fact that some players might not see a ton of action (maybe less so in VB than in softball).
I like how involved the athletes are in the process. I think that probably helped with the scoring, and would help for (hopefully a) next season if it turns out they need to tweak some things.

1. In total, Team Win Points are about 2/3 and Individual Stat Points (and MVP votes) are about 1/3. It will vary from player-to-player, of course, but that will end up being the overall distribution.
2. The top player(s) will need to win a lot and score a lot of individual points. The next tier down will be individually productive players who didn't win a lot and players who won a lot but didn't put up great stats.
3. OHs have an edge in Stat Points because they do all the skills besides setting, but some of the point values are adjusted a bit to give MBs and Ls a fighting chance. I'd be surprised to see a libero win the league outright, but I wouldn't be surprised to see one in the top-5.
4. The 3 scrimmage matches had a guideline for those captains to keep playing time relatively even, so everybody had a chance to showcase and get game reps in before the first draft. Going forward, captains are playing to win.
5. It's been pretty fascinating seeing how different players mesh with each other and what styles they want to play with, etc. Looking forward to seeing it play out!

Why wear masks if they are in a bubble? they look weird taking the masks off for air in between plays.

this will likely be an unpopular opinion, but this sounds like an absolute dumpster fire. giving me Indoor Football League vibes.
is this scoring / team draft nonsense really how they plan to build this league?
