Why wear masks if they are in a bubble? they look weird taking the masks off for air in between plays. They're not in a bubble. They (players) were at the African American Museum of Dallas today. I dont think the AU staff is constricted to the site either. Yeah, bubbles are a thing of the past. Athletes making millions in the NBA, NHL and MLS were willing to do it late in the summer but I don’t think they would’ve been able to find 44 volleyball players willing to live in a bubble for six weeks. They might happen for short events (NCAA tourneys, Olympics) but nothing that lasts a significant amount of time. Although if they’re getting tested daily, I think that should suffice to play maskless.

did the draft for the softball season. It worked. For PC purposes, could see the last two rounds of choices not being televised, but you never know.

Looks like they "snaked" the draft picks which makes sense. As in you might get either picks 1,8 or 2,7 or 3,6 or 4,5 etc (so that one team isn't always picking last each group of four picks). I did this a couple times when running pickup tournaments. Mid-level guys were captains (of which I was one, and of which there was plenty). Lots were cast to see who got to choose their picks first. That is, maybe you didn't want 1,8 but would rather have 3,6. So you could choose which group of picks you wanted, then after everyone picked their groups of picks, we picked players 1, 2, 3, 4, ... How you chose depended on how far the dropoff was after the very top players. One time I got to pick first and chose to pick 4,5 since the first five were pretty strong but down towards 7,8 it was a considerable dropoff (this was for 4 on 4 tourney). It was pretty fun and interesting. The captains went off to the side and did the picks without letting the larger group know the exact order of picks.

I really like the format so far. I think that the draft can be motivating for some players. I hope that Sheila and Sareea both feel like they have something to prove and they play like that this weekend. I could see there being a growing rivalry between the opposites and we could see a different order that they are picked next draft. I've watched a lot of European/Asian professional leagues and I'm excited to see how the level of play differs from each of those leagues. I was happy with the level of the scrimmages and I think it's only going to get better.
Also, the format of this league might be what keeps it sustainable. Instead of playing on one team, you are playing with a large group and can develop more friendships and connections. I can see the athletes really liking being together with all of the other athletes and even if you aren't on the same team as your closest friend, you still live in the same city and get to be together. Also, the constant changing of teams will help avoid having that one awful team where everyone is miserable because they keep losing. That will be good for overall morale. I can see AU as being a starting/ending league for American athletes. I think this might be a nice springboard for girls like Taylor Morgan and Leah Edmond. Also a great way to end a playing career for people like Larson and Gibbemeyer. This league may be the reason like those two play a bit longer than they normally would.

I hope Sheila absolutely goes off and everyone realizes they are dumb for not drafting the 2 time Olympic gold medalist earlier

If she isn’t on the court I imagine she would be a pretty good coach

She's played all of four months with covid cancelling the season last year and even then I dont think she was the first choice opposite for Minas

Sure she can’t hit as hard as Ebony right now but I guarantee she plays better defense and has better shots than anyone here barring maybe Larson

There's a reason she wasn't picked before Nwanebu, Lowe, Atkinson, Willow.

There's a reason she wasn't picked before Nwanebu, Lowe, Atkinson, Willow. Atkinson literally can NOT dig a ball or pick up a tip. I think the captains were valuing fire power a little too much.
