Santa Clara called timeout down 7-11, but it didn't help. Pepperdine with 3 straight points to reach 14-7.

2 in a row for Santa Clara gets them to 9-14
2 in a row for Pepp increases the lead back to 6 at 16-9

Yeah, I think you have to call that what Brown did a throw (which they did).

Spaar has 2 aces in a row to cut the lead to 3 at 14-17. Pepperdine calls TO.

Yeah, I think you have to call that what Brown did a throw (which they did). I remember one against BYU that I thought should have been called, but wasn't. Recently they've been calling it though. Not sure what changed.

Pepperdine treading dangerously. Broncos cut it to 18-17. Rosie Ballo in for O'Harra & she gets a kill to make it 19-17.
21-17. Tulino blocked. Santa Clara TO. Pepperdine responded well after the push from the Broncos. Pepp has Ahrens on the service line, which is good for them as she gets an ace after the timeout to make it 22-17.
23-17. Tulino attack error.
23-18. Scully blocked.
23-19. Scully hits wide. Wong is challenging touch. No dice.
24-19. Ahrens RS kill.
25-19. Brown slide kill to end it.
Pepp wins 3-1

Brown and Eschenberg seem like the two most aggressive "throwers" in the conference. I do think Eschenberg is more careful not to change the direction of the ball match when she does it.

Agreed. I've seen a few from Eschenberg that were questionable. She tends to keep the ball on her fingertips rather than palming it, which also helps.

Ahrens: .151 (19/11/53) Scully: .194 (12/6/31) Hames: .263 (7/2/19) Brown: .400 (7/1/15) O'Harra: .143 (2/1/7)

Ahrens was very productive in her last two matches for the Waves. She's finished the conference season with 4.44 kills/set hitting .259, albeit as a 3-rotation player (though she has added 32 aces at .44 aces/set in her serving role). Ahrens leads the conference in kills/set and aces/set. Conference statistics are available here. Anyone think this changes their perspective on POY? Eschenberg leads the conference in hitting percentage (.459) and blocks (1.52/set) by a large margin.

Was 2019 the first and only year (so far) where the WCC did?
POY SOY LOY FOY
instead of:
OPOY DPOY FOY
I don't feel strongly about Wiblin, Ahrens, Scully, Ballard-Nixon, or Eschenberg. If it was the old system of OPOY and DPOY, I probably favor Bower. But with a separate SOY award, I rather see a hitter get POY. Give it to Wiblin for the best all around season on a very good team. Given it to Ahrens for being a dominant hitter/server who at times carried her team to a second place finish. Give it to Ballard-Nixon for having a great season as a six rotation player on the conference winning team. Give it to Eschenberg for being the best hitter and blocker on the team that won the conference.

I think Wiblin will win, as she averaged 4.22 k/s on .295 hitting, she played six rotations (2.88 d/s), and she had to deal with inconsistent setting all year. All due respect to Ahrens, but I don't think she matches up with Wiblin. I also wouldn't be surprised if Bower wins, though it's hard to say with setters.

Whew, I felt good when PSU was seeded 13 because it seemed like past precedent was heavily weighted, then I felt bad when BYU was seeded 16th and even worse when Georgia Tech popped up on the board. Was shocked when USD came out with a bid and I actually think they got the better deal than BYU and Pepperdine relatively speaking. Overall good for WCC. More than any other year, this tournament feels like a second season for USD - I think personnel-wise they’re going to look completely different than they have all Spring. I have no guesses about how it works out for them.

Yeah, I think that's right. Assuming USD is healthy at middle and setter, they could make a run given their bracket.

Well, almost every year a WCC team ends up on the bubble. And since 2012 - I've never let my WCC faithful down in my predictions, even in the wonky 2014 year.
