UNI is down 2-0 to SIU?? UNI couldn't break 20 points in either of the first two sets (18-25, 19-25), but then pulls off three consecutive two-point set victories (29-27, 25-23, 15-13) to win the match. Crazy. Can only go off the stat sheet, as there was no other coverage (no video or audio streams). Looks like UNI is still struggling mightily with serve receive and passing (12 reception errors, 4 ball-handling errors). SIU wasn't exactly the best at serve receive either, seeing how UNI had 11 aces; but that was cancelled out by UNI's 11 service errors.

Kaylee Martin and Stef Jankiewicz both subbed out in the 5th set. never thought I'd see that. Missouri state is your conference champs. Wow that is amazing after the same team won only a few matches all last season. How does that even happen? Goes to show you how bad MVC is this year

Goes to show you how bad MVC is this year a bit premature to crown them the champs when they've only played 6 of 18 conference matches so far and they only have 1 win over a team in the top 6 of the conference standings.

If Drake can get Haley Bush healthy and consistent, they're one of the top teams in the conference. It's unfortunate the Mo St series got postponed. They have sweeps over UNI and Bradley and faced Illinois St without Bush.
Illinois St is very enigmatic.
Mo State is in a favorable spot, having the Drake series postponed.

fixed it for you. It always bugs me when conference standings are sorted by overall record. Non-conference matches have zero influence on conference standings. UNI is not in "6th place", but is in a 4-way tie for 3rd place with the other 3 teams that have 5-3 records in conference play thus far.

Last week's Drake @ Missouri State series was "postponed" due to positive Covid tests in the Drake program This week's Illinois State @ Loyola series was "postponed" due to ISU having "fewer than the minimum number of eligible, medically available players" (the league minimum is 9). Will be interesting to see if either series is actually rescheduled, or if those two programs have even more postponed/cancelled matches.
In matches that are actually being played this week: Missouri State beat Evansville in 3 sets in the first match of their home series with the Aces, to maintain their spot atop the MVC standings Bradley beat SIU in 4 sets to move into 2nd place in the conference standings. Indiana State fought their way back for a 5 set road win after UNI took the first two sets fairly easily but then struggled immensely in the following 3 sets And Valpo knocked off Drake in 4 sets.
MVC standings: 1. Missouri St 6-1 2. Bradley 6-3 3. Loyola 5-3 4. Illinois St 5-3 5. Drake 4-3 6. UNI 5-4 t7. Valpo 4-5 t7. Indiana St 4-5 9. Evansville 2-7 10. Southern Illinois 1-8

The conference is so weird this season... Drake/ISU both losing to Valpo... Will be interesting to see if Mo State continues to at the top

Will be interesting to see if Mo State continues to at the top my guess is that MSU stays at the top, but really it will all come down to who gets hot in the conference tournament. Drake and ISU would be good if they had their full rosters, but who knows how they'll end up given their health issues. And UNI is Jekyll and Hyde, looking great in stretches but then struggling mightily for stretches in the same match.

Sycamores drop the first two sets big and then something really switched going into the third set as they storm back to defeat UNI 3-2 [15-25, 18-25, 25-16, 25-16, 15-5]. First time the Sycamores have ever won in Cedar Falls. The Panthers looked quite discombobulated in the middle of the 3rd set all the way through the finish.
Regardless, good win for the Trees on the road!

Any way you slice it the Missouri Valley is not what it used to be I don't think you should make that conclusion from the first half of one weird season where no conference looks as good as usual. Illinois St knocked off #23 Marquette and 7th place in the MVC Valpo took #21 Notre Dame to 5. The MVC has been a multi bid conference the past few seasons if memory serves.
