Matches should be streamed on either BYU TV or the WCC Network. As the roster indicates, BYU has a very young team this year, with just two seniors and two juniors. 2019 WCC Player of the Year McKenna Miller graduated, as did arguably the best libero in the country, Mary Lake. Middle blocker and 2018 National Freshman of the Year Heather Gneiting has been serving a mission in the Seattle area since February 2020. She should be released by no later than August 2021 (COVID has caused a lot of missions to be shortened, and I’m not sure if hers will be affected or not). Outside hitter Madelyn Robinson transferred to Utah after the 2019 season. I’m sure coach Heather Olmstead wants to win as much as possible, but I expect this season to be primarily about developing the younger players at basically every position. Senior Taylen Ballard-Nixon is likely to start at outside hitter, while Olmstead has several options at OH2. Abbey Dayton played only in a defensive role last season, while Erin Livingston and Morgan Johnson redshirted. Dayton, Livingston and Johnson were part of the 2019 recruiting class that was rated No. 4 in the nation. Interestingly, it appears that incoming freshman Leilani Dodson has been moved from middle blocker to outside hitter. At middle blocker, senior Kennedy Eschenberg should start, and I would anticipate that incoming freshman Allie Hakes will compete for the MB2 spot, along with junior Whitney Llarenas. At opposite, sophomore Kate Grimmer played a fair amount last season, and she should get some competition from incoming freshman Makayla Tolman.
Incoming freshman Madi Allen will look to fill the hole at libero that Lake left, though Grave Wee and Morgan Bower, who both played last season, are also on the roster in the backcourt. Finally, sophomore Whitney Bower should continue to be the team’s starting setter. Junior Taylor Hifo is the backup setter, though she mostly saw playing time as a serving specialist in 2019. BYU was picked to finish second in the WCC behind San Diego, and I think that’s probably right. San Diego has a question mark at setter, as they lost the excellent Anna Newsome to graduation, but they have a lot of talent in the front court. I think BYU is a season away from being really good again, but Olmstead is a great coach, so I’m interested to see how quickly the team develops. Longtime BYU sports beat writer Darnell Dickson has written a preview of the upcoming season.

Who won last weeks BY-Ute scrimmage? I don’t see how there’s any possible way BYU won. I don’t know for sure but.

Who won last weeks BY-Ute scrimmage? I'm not really sure (I couldn't find anything about it online), but it's a scrimmage, so I don't think it's that meaningful either way.

Is it possible that BYU might switch Dodson to OH? The article shared in the OP says she's up for OH. Also, sounds like Whitney Llarenas might have a shot at MB? She had a couple of good swings last year. This should be Taylen's year. Excited to see what happens today. I suppose it is possible. At 6'1", Dodson is built more like a classic outside hitter than a classic middle blocker, but I don't know if she has any experience at the outside hitter position. I get the feeling that perhaps the writer just went off the roster rather than asking Olmstead about it (as a former sportswriter myself, I definitely would have asked Olmstead about this after I noticed the roster discrepancy), but I guess we'll find out today.

Who won last weeks BY-Ute scrimmage? From what I was told, Utes won, 3-1. Utah emptied their bench in the set that BYU won. I don't have more details other than that. Didn't care to ask. The result was something I had expected.

Yikes, didn't think Portland would roll over quite that easily.

No match thread so I'll blow this one up. They had an endline view for a little bit at the start of this set and it was awesome, sad they switched back.

BYU defense is not it right now. Their libero shanked a half swing right at her platform and they can’t pick up a tip to save their life. Offense looks good though

That's funny because I actually really dislike the baseline view. This applies to basically all non-standard views in all sports during live action.
