I was under the impression Morgan was the heir apparent to Mary Lake. Guess that didn’t pan out.

Yeah, I'm pretty certain that Jarom Jordan has mentioned this either during the volleyball broadcasts or on BYU Sports Nation. As you noted, I believe both will be grad transfers and will take advantage of their extra year due to COVID. I'm sure they can both be starters somewhere.

All well deserved. Koerber has emerged as one of the top players in the country and Bower is an excellent setter. BYU isnt playing their best volleyball or passing well but they're going to be dangerous in the Pitt regional. 28-1 on the year with only 1 match going 5 sets. They don't appear to be peaking at the right time but potential matchups vs Utah, Purdue and Pitt would be great to watch.

Great choices all-around. Bower was the WCC Player of the Year in the spring, and she's even better now, so she was a lock for Setter of the Year. Koerber is obviously deserving of WCC Player of the Year. And Olmstead was a lock for Coach of the Year considering they went undefeated in conference.

Its always hard to say why some players pan out more than others. So many intangibles. In Morgan's case, she was the least heralded and likely least talented of the 3 oldest Bower sisters. I have seen with my own kids how the oldest sometimes blaze a trail that the younger ones have the advantage of following. Would Whitney be as good as she was if she was the oldest sister and didn't have an older sibling to learn from? Perhaps that plays a role here. That said, Morgan is likely to play a bigger role next year for BYU, but I would guess not too big. I don't see her starting anytime in her career. To be fair to Morgan, she also had a significant condition with her knee that forced her to change positions from setter to libero. Good point on Morgan being slowed up by her medical condition. And had forgotten that this required her to switch positions. Note that this is the same condition that her sister Eden had as well, and that required her to also miss a year of school. Great article on that with a fairly graphic photo of Morgan's knee here: thepressrow.substack.com/p/digging-deep

Taylor Hifo was serving in the highlight practice video that BYU just posted!!!!!!!!! I noticed that she wasn't wearing a cast in the selection show reaction video. She heals fast. Hifo serves at the 24-second mark. I think she sets at the beginning of the video also.
