Pretty sure the Battle of the Mormons is the most interesting thing tomorrow.

So they announced this morning that even though the match is on ESPN+, BYU's normal announcing team of Jarom Jordan and Amy Gant will call the match. My guess is that this also means that BYUtv's production will handle the broadcast, even if it's on ESPN+.

If Texas can put their game on the Longhorn network, the BYU should be able to use theirs too.

Highlights from the Utah match. My favorite is at 1:58 when Gneiting gets a solo block on Drews coming out of the back row.
Also, the NCAA has posted the entire match on their YouTube channel.

I wonder how close Livingston is at being able to play six rotations. I would love to see her play all around next year if she can pass well.

I was hoping to see a few matches this year in which Livingston played six rotations, but with having to work some new back-row players into the system, it was probably for the best that they didn't throw that into the mix as well. I wonder how her back-row attacking is. She's already a sophomore, and I haven't see on back-row attack from her yet even in scrimmages.
I'm curious to see if Elyse Stowell could be a good back-row only player for BYU if she can't break into the lineup on the front row. Just the little I got to watch of her defensively in the Blue & White scrimmage was fun. She would be excellent on defense. Obviously the passing is the first priority, so who knows, but I really want to see her on the back row if possible. If she can pass at least as well as Abbey Dayton, it's a no brainer to play her over Dayton.

It seems that this BYU team struggles with their passing more than most Olmstead squads. Did they graduate several in past two years?

It seems that this BYU team struggles with their passing more than most Olmstead squads. Did they graduate several in past two years? The biggest loss was obviously Mary Lake after 2019. But some other key passers graduated in 2018. The beautiful thing about having lake was that she covered so much court, so even having one other player who was solid in passing was enough to keep BYU in system quite a bit. I like that Olmstead went after some Liberos in the portal this past season to try to improve passing, but unfortunately those Liberos aren’t actually great passers.

Surprised Livingston didn’t make All-Region. She had a GREAT weekend.

Aria McComber is only a bit better passing than Abbey Dayton. Sometimes she's worse, but she is a much better defender. Reinert hasn't been as good as I was hoping either, but she has more composure than McComber. Grace Wee transferred out, but she was always being targeted on serve receive and usually subbed out after several misses. She was an excellent defender, so it was a shame she couldn't pass well enough to stay on the court. Even though the two transfers haven't been as good as I'd hoped, they are an upgrade over last season because we needed to be able to play two back-row players for Ballard-Nixon and Livingston.

I feel like Livingston has surpassed Ballard-Nixon. She appears to have more range and a better arm. Yes, statistically speaking this is true too. TBN had a higher hitting percentage for most of the season until her recent slump. Livingston’s hitting percentage on the other hand has gradually improved throughout the year. The thing with Livingston is that she seems to show up in big matches. Pitt was her most dominant match of the season.

Obviously, Mary Lake was the biggest loss, as she was arguably the best libero in the country. But even with Lake, they had passing issues in 2019. That said, the passing is typically, well, passable because Bower is such a good setter.
