The team has been very quiet on social media lately, but Heather Olmstead did an hour-long podcast on BYU Radio a couple days ago. I haven't had a chance to listen to this one yet, but these podcasts tend to be pretty interesting and informative based on the ones I have listened to. Listened to this just now. Really enjoyed it. Got to hear about her journey into coaching as well as thoughts on different seasons, players, etc. I definitely recommend it.

Yeah, I listened to it as well. I had written up a summary, but I forgot to post it earlier. Among other things, the following was discussed: -The borderline miraculous surgery that saved her mother's life while she was pregnant with Heather and her twin sister covered in more detail here-Heather's playing career in high school, at Utah State and briefly in Europe -Her early coaching career as an assistant and some of her coaching mentors -Heather's decision to join her brother Shawn at BYU as an assistant -The 2014 and 2018 teams -Heather's admiration for and relationship with Elaine Michaelis -The season that just concluded -Some of the players she's coached (e.g. Eschenberg) I probably forgot something, as I was going off memory. They didn't go into too much detail on any one subject, as it's hard to go into too much depth in an hour. But it was a good listen overall. Amusingly, she seems to think that if McKenna Miller hadn't gotten hurt, that would have been the difference in the Final Four against Stanford. Uh, no. The passing was so bad that a three-rotation player would have made zero difference whatsoever. It's like if your offensive line is a sieve, and your quarterback is running for his life the whole game. You could have prime Jerry Rice and Randy Moss, and it wouldn't matter.

I am so disappointed. I was really hoping to be able to watch a spring match or two. So much for that hope.

I donโt understand why they are closed to the public. Is that how most other teams are?

Usually they are open to the public. Covid? I dunno.

Usually they are open to the public. Covid? I dunno. I guess all teams involved must have decided on this, but I really don't understand why at this point? The UofU probably still has tight COVID regulations, but BYU is no longer requiring masks or proof of vaccination for men's volleyball matches, so I don't know why we can't attend the two matches being hosted at BYU. I was so looking forward to this this year. Oh well. It is what is is.

It is not because of COVID regulations I will say that much. This was all coaches preference. And they are keeping it pretty quiet.

That stinks...no reports then? Heard from a Coast coach that there is another BYU transfer.

If it's not Covid related, I'm guessing it's just that they don't want the public to watch (i.e. privacy). I wasn't going to go anyway, so it doesn't really affect me. But it would have been nice to get some reports from others. Oh well. I'll just wait for the blue/white scrimmage before the season starts.
