Akana started following BYU players I try not to read too much into who is following who on Instagram. However, I did some research on Akana, and her dad played basketball at BYU Hawaii. Also, her brother is a highly-regarded football recruit (class of 2023) who is currently going to high school in Lehi, which is just up the road from Provo, so she likely has some other relatives in the area. Given that our libero just transferred, it seems Akana would have a good shot at the libero job immediately (honestly, given that she was good enough to play a significant role at Nebraska, she probably would have had a good shot even without the transfer). Edit: If I'm not mistaken, I think Akana's dad is currently on staff at BYU Hawaii. I don't want to get my hopes up, but we'll see. On staff as a teacher? No more athletics at BYU-H, unfortunately. This would be a GREAT get for BYU.

She was also hanging out with Aria McComber per Ig story Interesting. That story was very recent too (like last night).

Ohio State announced their non-conference schedule for this fall, indicating that they'll be playing BYU on September 9. Moreover, this match is at Georgia Tech, so by inference, that probably means that BYU will also play the Yellow Jackets. If so, then this is already a likely upgrade over last season's rather disappointing non-conference schedule. I think it's also reasonably likely that they may get a return trip from Pitt after playing them on the road last season.

Cincinnati, Pitt and UVU at the BYU tournament. That's very nice.

So the PrepVolleyball final rankings for the 2022 class came out, and all of BYU's recruits were in the top 150 according to this this post. 49. Kate Prior 79. Eden Bower 99. Hannah Billeter 115. Nataly Moravec 138. Briley Decker I'm not exactly sure where the class ranks, but that's seems pretty good. Interestingly, Pepperdine also has five incoming recruits who were in the top 150. If that kind of recruiting continues, they will likely challenge San Diego at the top of the WCC once BYU departs for the Big 12.

Heather Olmstead is on BYUSN this morning (should be in the next 5-10 minutes or so). I'll post the video after it goes up on YouTube.

Here's Heather Olmstead's interview that she did this morning:
Topics covered:
-Her upcoming coaching with the U21 national team, her relationship with Karch Kiraly and national team opportunities for BYU players -She hinted at a strong non-conference schedule that will be released "pretty quickly," including a "possible" (read: confirmed) match against Pitt -The last year in the WCC--she wisely ignored the host's attempt to get her to criticize the conference -The 2022 recruiting class and the incoming transfers -The upcoming move to the Big 12--it sounds like there may be some "upgrades" coming to the program in certain areas

That's funny...but probably true. Our success next year could be dependent on our ability to recruit a good male practice squad setter for the 2nd team!!! BTW, my prediction for pins is Livingston, Callahan and Grimmer. My for sure is Livingston. But, heck, if Hunterjake is going to practices he likely knows more than anyone. And, I would love to pick up the Jepsen girl. I wonder if she is questioning her decomitment in light of the ND hire!

If I were Jepsen I would be questioning my decommit from ND also ..... before she even knew who the new coach was. Not very smart. The Pitt staff is very concerned after they took her on a European trip and realized that she is not the athlete that they require on their court. Two colleges who both took Jepsen with zero in person looks at her game. Pitt vowed not to do that again. Covid started that trend but Pitt stepped into the same trap that ND did. BYU is amazingly consistent in getting MB's who can play at high levels. They watched Jepsen plenty of times and passed on her because they did see her in person. That's all we need to know about how they felt on upside potential. Eventually, it doesn't matter what a club coach tells a college, the player has to be able to play. I watched her a bit at nationals and if Jepsen is set in system on the s/r ball she is a threat but if a rally ensues or out of system ball comes at her, she is a fish out of water with no recognition of where the ball is going. I just don't think she will make an impact in a good program.

http://instagr.am/p/Cb-iHCWuz6m Got a 2023 libero from Club V, we now have 3 2023’s from the same team! I don’t think that happens often. She’s one of the best libs i’ve seen this season for sure Mia Lee is a player but probably will play Opp at BYU and not MB. She is not a top line MB but could be a dominate Opp. Damuni is an athlete who happens to be a setter. She is better athlete than Bower but not a better setter. Particularly after what I heard was a pretty big surgery on Bower's knee. However, she is about the same blocking liability re Bower. The Libero BYU got is the second best L on the top 17 V team from what their coaches told ours. The best L on the V team is going to USU and from what I was told she doesn't have the academics to get into BYU. BYU struggles to identify Libero's who have big upside potential. Heather played backrow but she can't identify good ones on the recruiting trail, yet.

Yes, check Cincinnati’s schedule. Pitt is coming to provo Oh, yeah. Cincinnati, Pitt and UVU at the BYU tournament. That's very nice. This pre-season schedule is already much tougher than last season's. Step in the right direction. It would have been better to replace UVU with a UCLA or other PAC-12 team. UVU might be alright, but they didn't even win their conference last year. They relied on an upset in the conference tourney to steal the NCAA bid.

And anyway, they are a crosstown rival, less than five miles away from BYU. So they were virtually guaranteed to be on the schedule anyway.
