Out of curiosity, does anyone know who BYU's highest-ranked recruit of all time was? Heather Gneiting was No. 6. Was there anyone ranked higher than that? Unfortunately for BYU, they literally had their worst season ever when Kristin Richards was a senior in high school in 2002.

She feigned interest to please her mom and sister. I can certainly buy that, but I think BYU effectively took itself out of the running with their on-court performance in 2002. Would she still have chosen to go to Stanford if she was 20 years younger with Heather Olmstead recruiting her and BYU going to the Big 12 after a decade of making the Sweet 16 almost ever year and two Final Four appearances? It's Stanford, so it's very possible that she still would go there. I guess we'll never know.

Frankly, the Kristin Richards scenario is old news and we should move on...although intriguing that her husband is now Meyers' coach...but, I digress. What I'm interested in is how will this upcoming BYU team will fare in the upcoming season? My thought is that they will dominate the WCC...but, I wonder if anyone has any predictions as to who will stand out...having no spring schedule to reference or any "insider" to report progress. I was wondering if Nataly Moravec will be an immediate contributor or is she an automatic red shirt? Where do you think the pin hitters will be based on anyone's current knowledge? Seems like BYU VB Camp was attended by some strong potential future players, yes?

As for this year's team, I expect them to be good. Maybe not quite as good as last year's team, but the young players on the spring 2021 team developed more quickly than I expected, so this team may be better too. I think the tougher non-conference schedule will be good for the development of the new starters, whoever they are.

BYU will do as well as we pass, pass and, let me think about this...pass...while some on this board love to rip W Bower for her size and blocking, every year I think if we don't have her to track down balls and keep balls alive we will won't get out of the first round. I just wish we wouldn't rely that much on her doing that...especially if she is coming off an injury. That being said--we do need a new pin, maybe two, to step up and play the important and somewhat specific role that Ballard-Nixon played. I am also intrigued by how things play out with the middles--just hoping the competition is FIERCE!!!!

But mediocre passing will limit how far they can go in the tournament.

Yep, it really is not that complicated. Olmstead and coaching staff do a great job of developing players, especially middles and pins. W. Bower betters the ball as well as any setter in the country (her and Gabrielle, for ironically many of the same reasons). BYU will be good...hopefully, great, if we can consistently pass and play a little defense.

Any word or thoughts on the new setting coach? The volunteer assistant, Penina Snuka? It seems like she was a really good player. Her bio says she coached high school and club, but I don't know where.

Any word or thoughts on the new setting coach? Even though the new volunteer was a setter when she played, I doubt that she is now the setting coach. She will work some with the setters and with all of the players, but is unlikely to replace Olmstead as the one primarily working with the setters.

Do you know if Olmstead is the one who works primarily with the liberos and defensive specialists? I would guess she is, but I don't know for sure.

Well, you're finally right about something. I will bet you $100 that Kaieva Johnson never makes an all conference team. Do we have a bet? I would also recruit the L off the V 16 team Are you talking about Trinidy Tien? It looks like she was among the players at BYU's volleyball camp.

She is an amazing libero!! She was hurt this past season, but if she was at the camp, that means she has recovered. I am not sure what other libero on the 16s that keeps coming up, but this girl is amazing. Brielle Miller will be great too.

She actually didn't play at the camp but still participated in a non-playing role. But she's a 2024, so she has time to recover.
