I think foster homes or a similar situation would be a good alternative to the camps the government is currently operating. It's a broad idea. I don't make policy and don't claim to be an expert in implementation. Is the US government (under Joe Biden) currently operating detention camps on the US-Mexico border? Even though there have been proven cases of child abuse in these "foster care homes"? Seems like there are improvements that can be made. I'm not a policy expert, as I said. It's a suggestion. Is the US government (under Joe Biden) currently operating detention camps on the US-Mexico border?

I think US immigration is an absolute mess. People are being detained at the border. As I too am not an expert I don't know what the answer to these complex problems are. I don't think we should simply have open borders but I am absolutely against tearing families apart as a deterrent to immigration as Trump's policies did. Biden is not following those Trump policies and has been in office for a bit over a month. I am not going to criticize him yet.

How long is the grace period where you're not willing to criticize Biden for the things his adminstration is doing?

How long is the grace period where you're not willing to criticize Biden for the things his adminstration is doing? Depends on the issue. Covid-19 relief is critical in this country. This is and needs to be a priority.

This is and needs to be a priority. Presidential administrations can work on more than one problem at a time. But let's say the relief bill passes in early March- how long does Biden get before you think criticism is fair?

But let's say the relief bill passes in early March- how long does Biden get before you think criticism is fair? Depends. How long will it take to unwind Trump policies, install Biden administration appointees/staff, change or dismantle the culture at DHS/ICE - all while facing internal (Cuccinelli/ICE union deal, for example) and external (federal judge in Texas blocking Biden EO’s, for example) obstruction? I’m all for holding the Biden administration accountable for taking a hard pivot away from the harsh, casually cruel and counterproductive Stephen Miller-designed policies, and to enact reforms. As long as we don’t underestimate the degree of difficulty here. This isn’t going to be a matter of weeks, but of months - at least. All while dealing with a public health crisis and an economy in the midst of a sluggish recovery. Not to mention every attempted act ending up in court thanks to the likes of the reptilian Ken Paxton. It’s going to be a slog, I think.

If a single mom with a 3-year-old daughter commits murder, are we willing to tear apart that family? Which crimes that come with prison time are we ok with tearing families apart for and which are we not?

They are attempting to enter the country through legal border crossings.

Trump administration family separation policy Under the policy, federal authorities separated children and infants from parents or guardians with whom they had entered the US. The adults were prosecuted and held in federal jails or deported, and the children were placed under the supervision of the US Department of Health and Human Services. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trump_administration_family_separation_policyAre you saying they were snatching away children whose parents were NOT being prosecuted or deported?
