Haha, there's a leprechaun at the scorer's table.

Uh... is the time of day/day of the week the reason this is so bad? Because this is pretty bad.

Ugh. BYU regrouped and USD is a mess again in the fourth set. 11-3 BYU lead.

San Diego can't pass to save their life rn. Missing Tastad for sure

Don't panic just yet. But I still believe San Diego needs to win just one more match to make the NCAA Tournament. They'll have to do it at BYU or vs. Pepperdine unless they have a miracle recovery today.
5 straight losses incl. one to LMU with no significant victories is not at-large worthy.

San Diego hitters just aren't being given anything to work with. Hitting -0.249 in the fourth set with lots of free balls going back over the net. Passing and defense are AWOL
BYU leads 16-5

BYU got to 18-5...USD with 4 straight points to close the gap to 18-9. BYU takes a TO, because, why not?
(I would like to see Madill back in the match)

I don't know how you call that pancake down. Clearly a clean dig.

I wonder if San Diego is expecting any additional players (Tastad?, Turner?) to re-enter the lineup by Saturday's match in Provo. If not, things don't look good.
BYU won the fourth set 25-17.
BYU hit .287 and USD hit only .152.
BYU got 20 kills from their middles. San Diego got a total of 3 (all from Goddard).
Ballard-Nixon had 18 kills hitting .484. Wiblin had 18 kills for USD hitting .262
Setting consistency and location was BYU>>>USD

Was anyone key missing for USD today? For the most part they looked bad for the entire match.

I had BYU for this match but I picked San Diego to win the 2nd match...

+ BYU really worked the middle well which makes sense given USD's missing players.
+ I think that was a pretty good match in terms of BYU's court coverage and backrow defense.
+ Passing, well, that was ugly <- but I suppose it's important for the men's and women's teams to have something in common.

Was anyone key missing for USD today? For the most part they looked bad for the entire match. The two middles that started the beginning of the season - Turner and Schraeder - are both out now. (Although those two were getting 1 kill/set and 0.88 kills/set and were already not the strength of the team). The backup MB's seem very unseasoned, both on attacking and blocking. Also, Camryn Tastad, who played libero for the earlier part of the season before Annie Benbow returned, is now out. I thought Tastad did a really good job at libero while she was in, and then she had been a very solid DS after Benbow's return. All of the pins, which are the strength of this year's team, are playing. The primary setter, Madill, apparently had a short illness, and was out most of the last match, but started today's match, before being benched for Tercariol. I'm not sure any of us armchair jockeys thought that was an improvement.

Fayad can be a game changer - she had some terrific early performances this season. Today she played 2 sets. I was also surprised Madill wasn’t back in to set - she took the bullet when the passing was the problem. They could have used Tastad for sure. USD is talented but seems to be grasping at straws at times.

What do you think the expected seeding for BYU looks like if they beat USD on Saturday and win their other 4 matches? 12ish?
