Eschenberg is really moving well. I don't think she was anywhere near 100% the first few weeks back from injury.

This BYU team looks SO much better than the first few matches of this season. They are really gelling. The have the killer look in their eyes. Been missing a lot this year.

I think you could break your nose with that hard of contact...hope Fayad is OK. At 21-9, BYU starts putting subs into the match for experience. Doesn't look like USD will be ranked next week, or that anyone would choose them over Pepperdine in their final 2 matches... trojansc says they need to win one of those matches against Pepp to make the tournament. They have lost their last 3 matches now.

They have lost their last 3 matches now. I just don't see how you can justify a bid for San Diego at 11-5 with 5 straight losses. They won't have a win over anyone relevant, nobody above .500. Honestly, I don't think they should get in even if you change it to 12-4 and negate the loss to LMU. They have to beat BYU or Pepperdine to get a tournament bid. They're getting 3 chances at home, so they won't have any sympathy from me.

Frohling has not been very good this season It's perplexing. She was an AA, and both the WCC and South Pacific Region Freshman of the Year last season. She had 2.67 kills/set hitting .267 when being set by Newsome. She's a 6'5 Opposite. Doesn't seem to be injured. It just seems like the current setters can't put a ball where she wants to swing. The setting has been wildly inconsistent, and she can't adjust...? She's getting a similar 2.77 kills/set this season, but only hitting .198 Yeah, her play last year was a reason why I (and many others) thought that San Diego would have a real good season this year. It’s disappointing to see but I think this season can be excusable due to the effects of covid on San Diego

She had 2.67 kills/set hitting .267 when being set by Newsome. This is definitely the reason why she is struggling this year. Since the beginning of the season, none of the setters have been able to consistently locate a ball behind them to Frohling. It looks like the plan at the beginning was the have her play 6 rotations this season, but the mediocre setting has made San Diego's RS attack pretty insignificant this year. All of the COVID-related stops probably didn't help this program either. Hopefully they pull something together in Fall 2021 because there are too many good pins for them to struggle like this. Plus with Shannon Scully transferring out of Pepperdine for grad school, the WCC title race should be a bit easier for them in the Fall as well.

So, even without Covid, would she be doing better?

It looks like she's got a nice arm and gives BYU the option to go big at opposite. It will be interesting to see how she develops over the next few years.

Yeah, her play last year was a reason why I (and many others) thought that San Diego would have a real good season this year. So, even without Covid, would she be doing better? Sorry lol, I very subtlety changed the topic to the whole San Diego team underperforming in my last post. Idk what it is but every returning starter is underperforming. But to focus on Frohling, it could just be the “sophomore slump”. Although, I do think Newsome was much better than either of the two setters that have started for San Diego this year. So yeah, as you’ve alluded to, I think her struggles can be related to the setters and their connections with her.
