Dejan Who? The Hawaii Middles have been doing a nice job on both sides of the net. Delano Thomas is off to a great start. Last night 13 BLOCKS, 16 KILLS, 3 ACES, against a very good Lewis Team (Bookum's 3rd Place Pre Season Pick for 03'). Stanhaiser is coming along, and improving each game. At 6'10" he'll get his kills and had some nice blocks. He is coming around as the No. 2 Middle. Traditionally a Short Team, Hawaii Middles are taking alot of pressure off of Costas. Now Costas hitting percentage is higher, and his passes are more accurate. Outrigger is next week, we should see more improvement. Ball State, Penn State and Chinese National Club should be a good test. BOOKUMDANOALOAHA.

Bookum, You're normally a pretty informed volleyball fan but "Dejan, Who? " Hawaii's middle blockers needs much improvement. Yes, they played well against Lewis but lets face it Lewis in not UCLA. Delano is a very good player but can he stay on the court due to grades. History says "NO". Josh is a basketball player playing volleyball, Brian has one arm and the guy from Brazil is a OH. Those guys are going to replace the best middle in the country last year? You're not smoking that funny stuff are you? If you are "Bookum Dano"

Hey my Muslin Volleyball Brothers.
Isn't replacing the Serbian Middle (Dejan) Blocker with Delano Thomas called "ethnic cleansing". How come Wilton isn't recruiting any more Euros? I think he's gone Latin (with Jose and Pedro).

So far this season Delano has done a great job in filling in for Dejan Miladinovic, but Hawai`i's blocking will drop a notch because Delano isn't close to the blocking numbers that Dejan was putting up last year.
The second middle postition is where Hawai`i will be hurt this year. I know Josh Stanhiser is still learning the game and he is improving a lot, but that will be Hawai`i's weakness. And Brian Nordberg really didn't impress me at all last year. But I don't know how much he improved over the off-season. So for now we'll give him the benefit of the doubt, but like I said before the second middle position will be Hawai`i's weaknes

Hey Bookum...I haven't seen Delano play yet this year, but he was pretty good last year as a true freshman. As you know, to be dominate at any sport, you MUST play with the confidence of a winner. It sounds as though Thomas is discovering what he can really do against older players. I've always felt he could be a dominant middle in these next three years (provided he keeps up his grades). He has raw talent to be a great one if he jells with the rest of the team. It's nice for Hawaii to have tall middles for a change (6'10" Stanhaiser, 6'7" Thomas), but height isn't everything. Most dominant middles are fast-on-their-feet and very aggressive to make a mean block...hungry for the quick kill. We'll see if Bike Stan can be a powerful middle. We'll see. Someone recently mentioned in their post that UCI played with a lot of emotion and Pepperdine lacked it. I've always felt that intensity and the killer instinct set any team apart of the rest...last year, Hawaii had the intense bulldog attitude always going for the jugular and never letting up. It made them winners. This year again, the team with the most emotion and intensity will prevail in the end. I believe Hawaii has the edge there, but watch out for UCI, Long Beach and UCLA. Pepperdine? I believe their team can be termed as "quiet assassins." No outward emotion, but with their talent, they may kill you just the same. Aloha, Brudder.
