Kind of surprised with the poll considering you can't buy a Spalding KOB, at least I couldn't find one..
I am now used to the mikasa KOB and like it just fine. I do find it isn't a "ridgy" more of a marshmellow type feel. And I think it needs more pressure than the spalding KOBs.

I play them at 3-3.5psi and found that's what most people who go by feel play at as well. Mikasa KOB low end of pressure calls for 2.5. I'll play them between 2.5-3psi.

I asked this question the past couple years, and I just wanted to see what has changed. What outdoor ball do you all prefer? The areas I play, the Spaulding and Optx is the preferred ball. AVP America has taken over a lot of the tournaments, so they are using the Wilson for tournament play. I think both are ok, but I prefer to play withe the Mikasa VLS300, but everyone I play with seems to hate that ball. There's been a few new additions over the past year. So, if you were given a choice to play with any ball, what would it be? Ok, so it's almost the end of the season. Has anyone's opinion's changed? Have you found a new favorite? Played with a new ball since you voted?

There are rumours by the way that Mikasa will release a new ball for FIVB events.

I talked to one of the Wilson reps at Chicago, and he said that they are going to be coming out with a new ball at a lower price point. They see a market for something between their official game ball and the replicas that is cheaper but can actually be played with. He said that they were going to target juniors clubs who would be ordering by the cart-full. Not sure when these might hit the shelves, but I would be interested in hitting one around to see how it plays.

Pricks.

Pricks. We bought some new ones for a recent tournament and I swear they were like $35 more than when I bought my personal ball when the Optix came out.

I don’t know what line of business y’all are in, but EVERYTHING is more expensive these days. I work in industrial automation, and most of our vendors have had multiple price increases in 2021 so far due to raw materials prices and global shortages. I don’t think that Wilson is gouging by raising their prices.
They were selling OPTX for $60 on site in Chicago, but I didn’t buy any because I thought that I would be able to find them for that price or cheaper before next spring. How many of us on the board here are actually paying full price? If you are an AVP member, don’t you get a pretty nice discount? Even using the Sandcast code will get you 20% off, which is $60 now.

To some extent that is true. But they jacked the price by about $15 per ball the second they changed colors while claiming some spin detection nonsense. It has gotten much harder to find a decent discount when trying to buy in bulk. Granted covid has definitely messed up the availability of most products

why would they charge less when they sell out all the time . There's truth to that. I just don't like that they're admitting kids can't actually afford their good ball so we'll make a new one that is just sorta crappy.

Pretty much also true with basketballs, footballs, or any sports equipment for that matter.

For whatever reason a %*$#ty basketball or football can still be quite playable but a bad volleyball may as well be a rock.

AVP player discount is pretty steep . . . under $40 . . . availability is sketchy, but they seem to be available quite often.
