I just gave you a simple way they are not. Why is the NCAA D1 Women's Volleyball tournament not seeded from 1-64? Why is it seeded 1-16 and then regionalized? For that matter, why are matches played on back-to-back days? Why no rest day like MBB and WBB tournaments? I'm actually OK with saying different sports need different amounts of rest. If you played football games every day, people would be killed out there.

I found this interesting. Estimated endorsement earnings for the top 20 basketball players left in the men's and women's tournament. Opendorse isn't exactly a neutral party, so take the $$ numbers with a grain of salt, but eight of the top ten follower counts belong to WBB players. A *lot* of sponsor money that's unavailable to the athletes.

Especially when both sports play on consecutive days during conference tournaments.

Especially when both sports play on consecutive days during conference tournaments. I'm not saying I know what the right amount of rest is. Just saying that I'm OK with the idea that different sports might need different rest. Heavily anaerobic sports seem to need only as much rest as it takes to recover the oxygen debt. And sports like softball and baseball seem to be able to play 2+ times a day (except maybe for pitchers). But other sports seem to need more rest.

Seeding the women's basketball tournament makes it the biggest money loser of any NCAA championship, but they do it because the optics would look bad otherwise. This is telling. Or maybe they genuinely believe in equal opportunities for women in sports?

I'm not even arguing for equality. I am arguing against gross inequality. Be better, NCAA.

"I'm saying this because I think the "Olympic sports" ought to be treated more like men's basketball or football." By the NCAA, they are. Almost exactly. I just gave you a simple way they are not. Why is the NCAA D1 Women's Volleyball tournament not seeded from 1-64? Why is it seeded 1-16 and then regionalized? Obviously, to cut costs. But why is this cost-cutting not used in women's basketball? Well, because then it would be obvious that women's basketball was being treated differently from men's basketball. So why is it not used in men's basketball? Because men's basketball is important. And why is it important? Oh look, there's our old friend revenue again..... The NCAA D-I women's basketball tournament has traditionally been played at schools sites hosted by one of the participants. That's resulted in lower overall costs (and theoretically a reward for the hosts to play at home) although they didn't try to limit travel because they have a bigger travel budget. Of course this year has been different.

Or maybe they genuinely believe in equal opportunities for women in sports? Who is getting less ‘opportunity’ but not seeding all 64 teams?

I think they believe in exactly as much "gender equity" and "good optics" as required to avoid angering the feds and/or sponsors.
It's just that NCAA leadership is so incompetent it can't stop scoring own goals.

Seeding teams 1-64 should theoretically give teams a fairer chance of advancing. In the WVB tournament I've seen some complaints by the seeded team about having to face too tough an unseeded opponent or unseeded teams complaining about having to face a tough 1st round opponent.
