Question about hybrid serves like Hayden: Why aren't more players/teams developing serves like hers? I can only think of Eggleston and Parra from Texas that are hitting hybrids (I'm sure there are more), and Hans from A&M had a good one, but why aren't teams trying to teach it more? Is it just because of consistency? consistency and there aren't a lot of players who can get the contact point needed for them. Stivrins has a good one.... but for every one she gets in... three of them go out

But I'd love to see more players going back and hitting those bad*ss Bricio-esque serves. So fun to watch.

Height. The higher the contact point, the more effective the hybrid can be Interesting. Because by watching Parra serve, who admittedly isn't the best jumper, her serve is much more flat. But maybe she's a little unique and has been working on it a lot (I'm not a coach lol). I do think we'll start to see more hybrids though, and I'm here for it.

You think she gets over 10 feet? Not by my eye. But also, there's no way the FIVB measurements from 2019 for her jump touch are correct, they're way too low. Don't get me wrong, she gets up for being like 5'9-5'10ish, but she's also not over 10'6" like Texas's other pins are. Maybe my standards are skewed because I've watched so much Texas.

I suspect they don't let her try it out too much because, as you say, consistency.

How high would you say she gets? I think I've watched too much Texas because she looks low to me compared to how high our other pins are (I don't think we have anyone else under 10'4")...so how does someone with a more varied perspective see her vert? I do think it's solid for an undersized pin but I don't know how high it is.

also apologies to any UNLV/Illinois State fans wanting to talk about the match but for some reason hybrid serves have been on my mind ever since I watched Hayden serve.

The angles she hits though tells me that she gets up high

And I doubt she gained over 2 feet in a year and a half. I wish jump touches were publicized or even talked about during as commentary.
