We will most likely not use our tickets for half the games, 2 seatbacks, as we drive in from Chicago- especially as there are no back to back games. We are willing to give away our unused seats if I can figure out the logistics. 😊

Wow -Retke, Hilley, LoBerg & Barnes all coming back Whoa, that's a lot of starters! Looks like Georgia Civita is also going to be back for them. I do feel for their other players who've been waiting their turn. It's cool and all to be a part of a really good team but it's more fun to actually get to play. I'm glad we're only returning two "super-seniors". Cooney's probably still got a lock on one of the pins but there's plenty of opportunity for the frosh and red-shirts to compete for playing time in the front row. Hope everyone is getting/staying healthy. Orange and Blue scrimmage is only about two months away!

It's cool and all to be a part of a really good team but it's more fun to actually get to play. But it isn't "costing them" anything. Let's take freshman setter MJ Hammill as the example. In a non-COVID world, she would have come in for the fall 2020 season expecting to sit behind Sydney Hilley for a year, and then have three years eligibility remaining to maybe be the starter. But because of COVID, instead she sat for the spring 2021 season, and will sit again behind Hilley for the fall 2021 season... after which she will have three years eligibility to maybe be the starter.

That's a fair point that her effective eligibility is the same and she gets the same bonus covid year as Hilley. In real time though, the clock keeps ticking and that's another year to wait where you're mostly relegated to the practice gym. I didn't play competitive sports in college so I don't know how that headspace may be different from how it is for prep athletes. I just think I'd be bummed to go into a situation expecting to wait one year for my real shot, only to then have to wait another year based entirely on someone else's decision. Another year of putting in all the training, practicing, and sacrifices without much real hope of playing time.

Hypothetically if most of roster opts to take their extra year - it is going to get real complicated witn $. I bet many don’t get $ for that extra year.

I agree about the money. If 4 players return as “super-seniors” the result could be as many as 16 volleyball scholarships, well over $100,000 in extra grant in aid expense. It is one thing for the Illinois football team to return and pay for about 20 extra scholarships (it is football after all) finding that much money in all of the non-revenue sports could be a real challenge for an athletic department, particularly after a year without ticket income. The number of schools cancelling different sports for financial reasons is remarkable.

Super Seniors who get more money don't count against the 12 scholarship limit. The other classes would so not only does the athletic department potentially have to come up with the additional funding, but they can't exceed the 12 scholarship limit. If they have players leave it might work, but again lots of moving pieces in the puzzle to figure out.

Anyone know who we are recruiting in the 2023’s. They can start to verbal. I wonder if Kenna Wollard is on Coach Tamas radar. Anyone have any insight into who we are looking at?

I have no insight but saw Kenna Wollard play at the JVA World Challenge. I think she is a legit DI talent. Very athletic, great arm, great hops.

Are any of you watching the Volleyball Nations League USA matches? The match against Turkey yesterday was a good Olympics test, and both MBH and Jordyn Poulter look like they will be starters. I loved seeing Jordyn set Michelle in the pipe especially for monster kills.
