Really feel for Bruna- it sounds like she’s been dealing with injuries for much of her time as an Illini. Hope she’s doing alright and recovers fully soon! I agree. She was just coming into her own at the end of last spring. That leaves Terry, Nunge & Gregus as our OH. Totally- she was clicking on the left side that last handful of matches. Cooney was unavailable for a couple matches and that was Bruna's first real opportunity at OH as an Illini- she had only really been used at OPP but looked more comfortable on the left. I keep going back to Tamas's Daily Illini interview last fall where it sounded like he was planning to move Whittington to the pins: "Despite her experience as middle blocker, head coach Chris Tamas plans to move her to either outside or opposite hitter." So she might be included in that OH list, too. If Whittington is slated to be Cooney's eventual successor at OPP though, it might be good for her to play there this year and have Cooney back at OH this season.

Has anyone heard if there will be a Red v Blue scrimmage this year? Will it be live streamed like last year? Who has the inside info?

Has anyone heard if there will be a Red v Blue scrimmage this year? Will it be live streamed like last year? Who has the inside info? Good question, alum! Haven't seen a finalized schedule released so we're in the dark. Since UIUC hasn't backtracked on hosting 100% capacity events I have to imagine they'd be willing to allow spectators for a pre-pre-season scrimmage as in years past. I'd think they'd want to put on a scrimmage that weekend before classes start to get the students and Spike Squad jazzed for the season, not to mention us volleyball-deprived townies. If they put one on but don't stream it, I'll be glad to post notes and updates.

JP is setting her butt off! Running the middle ( which people were criticizing her lack in the pool play) and JWO is playing lights out in the back row.

Quotes from the article: "TOKYO — The first time Jordyn Poulter met Michelle Bartsch-Hackley, she never could have imagined they would end up on the same Olympic team. She was far too star-struck for such daydreams. A 12-year-old at a University of Illinois volleyball camp, Poulter idolized Bartsch-Hackley, who had helped lead the Illini to the Sweet 16 for three consecutive years before finishing as NCAA runner-up in 2011." “They have different qualities,” U.S. women’s coach Karch Kiraly said. “But we’re sure happy we have both those Illini on our team.” "Back in the United States, Kiraly noticed. He said he regularly receives emails from players asking for a chance to play on the national team, but he recognized Bartsch-Hackley’s potential without any nudging. “Lots of players reach out,” he said. “She didn’t need to do that. Her play did the talking, and it has been doing it since.”" "Poulter, who was born in Naperville (Illinois) and went to high school in Colorado, took a more direct route to the national team. She signed with U. of I. — in large part because of her idol, Bartsch-Hackley — and helped lead the Illini to the Final Four in 2018. That same year, Kiraly invited her to the national team’s training camp. The youngest player in the gym, Poulter barely knew anyone and was tasked with setting for her idols Bartsch-Hackley and Jordan Larson. The situation could have overwhelmed her, Kiraly said, but Poulter was up for the challenge. “She crushed it as a learner, leaning into the discomfort of that first summer,” he said. “By the end of the next summer, she was a starter at our first Olympic qualifier.”" "If the U.S. wins that elusive gold, it would be in large part because of the Illini thread woven through the team. In addition to Bartsch-Hackley and Poulter, offensive coordinator Erin Virtue is a former U. of I. standout too. “The connection is strong,” Bartsch-Hackley said. “It’s a nice piece of home.”"
