Going back to a conversation we had recently about 5'9" setters, Kentucky's setter is 5'9". Raina, Megan and Jessica took turns abusing her throughout the match, witness all the balls that went flying over Kentucky's middle back defender off of soft blocks. Grome is a terrific setter, and may do ok against the smaller pins in the SEC, but in certain situations a setter her size is a real liability.
The Kentucky game showed our team their capabilities and should give them the confidence I think they lacked in the first two matches against Nebraska. I'm calling Illinois in 4.

Earlier this year I suggested Raina might be moved to the right side next year. Put that suggestion in the trash can. Did you also advocate Kuper hitting from the backrow  I was someone who did. May I refer you to the last Nebraska match where Kenzie Knuckles 5’8” killed us. When Kuper was a DS she took a few swings. |

Just saw what the Spike Squad was putting together. Seems like a great opportunity that I wish happened back in 2008 during the Bartsch/Ward run.

Megan Cooney is on my list of favorite (non-Gopher) players to watch in the B1G. Good to see her have such a strong match against Kentucky and extend her solid career into the Sweet Sixteen.

Illinois' Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is chartering a plane to Austin for the Volleyball Band and the Student Spike Squad members to attend the Sweet 16 match-up with Nebraska. There will be a send-off event for the team this afternoon at 5PM at the State Farm Center. I-L-L...!

Is the chartered flight only for Spikers, players and the band or is it open to Networkers (boosters)? I figure if students can go, they'd let the Networkers join. Maybe that is just too logical.

It might only be for school personnel due to insurance and legal rules. However, I’d love to join them if possible and if I could afford it. I missed out on San Antonio. |

That would makes sense, but would be interested.
Tickets look to be only $24 for the all session reserved seats, drive from Champaign isn't too bad (easy two days, one day doable tag teaming). A younger me with responsibilities at home would figure it's a no brainer.

Congrats Megan Cooney for being named AVCA All Region - Northeast Region. Makes her eligible for ALL- American at least honorable mention.

Does anyone know where to find current stats for just the tourney? Do they even keep/post them. Raina has to be one of the kills per set leaders.
