Honest question, no homers please. I had Minny ranked pretty low in my poll all season because I did not trust having the freshmen play such an important role. Did the lack of experience hurt them or did Pitt just play better than they did? I'm a homer, but not incapaable or rationale thought. I think it's totally reasonable that Minnesota was overseeded. But in a way, based on the matches they played this year, why would the committee not place them where they did? They had two matches cancelled against both Michigan and Ohio State. One against Wisconsin. Not impossible they MN would've lost three of those. Had that been the case, they're maybe even outside the top eight in the seeds. Sure, Landfair probably had a few errors that one could attribute to newbie nerves. But the real story today for Minnesota's performance was their first contact. Tepid service pressure to start. I think it would've been better with McGraw in the lineup (both serving and passing), but that's still no guarantee of a win. Pitt got the ball to Kilkelly too often, and Rachel did not respond in a strong way. Rollins hit well, but did not pass well. I want to complain about Rubright's blocking, but Pitt passed so well, especially toward the end, it's hard to fault the lack of closure. Again, first contact. What's so ironic is that Hugh talks about first contact so often, and champions low-error play. Minnesotat simply did not execute. Pitt played their game and it was enough, if barely.

I thought one of the reasons Pitt passed so well was because Minnesota did not serve aggressively.

It has not been this bad for a while. Watching the Gophers in the last two sets they played like they were just trying not to lose versus aggressively fighting to win. Not a good recipe, and it showed. You posted about serve receive. The Gophers have a 44.4% good pass percentage on the year. They were at 43.8% in 2019. Today was consistent with that. Blaming Kilkelly is not the answer. Who else do I blame for the bad passing?

Who else do I blame for the bad passing? The Gophers don't have a single elite ball control player on the roster. Who would you blame?

Hugh chokes when things don’t go as planned. Systems coach/good developer and strategist, poor tactician? I've seen Minnesota matches where that seems true, but not enough to make a generalization. Might fit given his time with USVB and how those teams looked.

What a fascinatingly weird season. Lol. I could see anything for the Gophs from being runner ups to this result. So, it's disappointing, but also not that disappointing. I'm sort of relieved it's over. Kudos to Pitt and congrats and thank you to everyone leaving the Gopher program.

Didn't you just say you were capable of objectivity? McGraw has a good pass percentage of ~47% over the last two years. If you think she is an elite passer don't know what elite looks like. I agree ball control is a problem for the Gophers but it has been a problem for 2 years, not just today.

Does Minnesota have chemistry issue? I think they have a pretty good chemistry department. Pre med is good.
