Courtney vs JWO, who will end up in Tokyo? I’d guess Courtney unless VNL is a complete disaster but I don’t see that happening given the other teams and the rosters they are bringing. I'm slightly leaning in favor of wanting JWO at Tokyo at this point. But I'm not counting out Courtney. May the best libero get the spot.

I bet Duan Fang is as shocked as you are
I guess she was called not because she has a chance of making it to Tokyo, but for her passing so the B team can actually do their experiments/tactical plays instead of getting Yao Di to just chase the ball around all the time.
Well, hey, if fate or good fortune smile on you unexpectedly, you should do whatever you can to get the most out of it right? Especially if you are B-team player with no expectation of making it to the Olympic roster, you might as well use the opportunity to do your best and get yourself on the radar for Lang Ping. Absolutely, I'm glad she has a chance to show her stuff again.

WWKD, What would Karch do? 1. Play JWO the entire first week. She messes up any of the games, she’s out, will never be considered anymore. 2. Give 2nd week to Courtney. Whatever the result, she’s probably still getting Week 3 playing time. 3. Shared playing time for weeks 3-4. Give Turkey/Russia to each one of them and evaluate. Ideally, someone is already above the other after those matches. 4. The one who has the upper hand plays China Team A. If she messes up the first set, get her out and put in Libero #2. If a win can’t be had, only then, I think it’s time for #Liberobo. And I guess I can’t contain my excitement for VNL anymore. 1-2. DR, Canada, Brazil >>>> Serbia C, Netherlands, Thailand. Especially considering the fact that DR and Brazil are actually in the Olympics and there's a very good chance that USA will match-up with them in the crossovers. Using that is not a fair comparison between Courtney and JWO.
2. Courtney should've been out after that WC match against China... 3. Sure, but ideally both flop hard and Kelsey has to "put out the fires". 4. China A is going to stay on the bench*. It's VNL. Last time WMJ "didn't play" because she had a minor injury. Do you think that'll happen if it's the World Cup or Olympics? They'll play through minor injuries. edit: also, I don't think the libero designation can switch in a single match. Unless if you mean "take 3 liberos, Lib #1, #2, and Kelsey" -- if FIVB even allows that.
* Unless if Jenny is so confident she can beat the US convincingly three, maybe four times (2x VNL and maybe 2x OG) in one summer. Historically that hasn't been the case.
1. Which is exactly why JWO should start. If she can’t hold up against those teams, I think Karch would be like “how can she handle the medal favorites?” If she passes through this round, she will get another chance to live. 2. Courtney getting more leniency cause I think she’s still his #1. 3. Re: China match, this will be their decider. If neither can pull a win for USA, given that an A-Team China plays, then both will be taken out. The succeeding rounds, Krob will be libero leading up to Tokyo.

As for other factors like personal bias...well I am not Karch so I can't say much on that.

Why should JWO have to prove herself against those teams instead of Courtney? I really don't see how Courtney is better. In any case we've already seen Courtney not being able to hold up against China in the world cup so if that's the argument she should already be cut from the roster.
2. Yeah, that's a wrong choice, LOL.
3. The sooner Karch&co wake up to the reality that the lib is best for Krob, the better. The other OH's should be Larson and Bartsch

Courtney is the better passer. The USA system requires good passing to work. She’s definitely number 1 with this in mind. The rest of her game is weak.

I’m all for JWO too but knowing Karch and his tendency to play favorites, thinking MC is still his #1 isn’t too far-fetched. Unless LOWE getting cut early on is an indication, I think MC’s still his choice.

Only if JWO proves to be better/at par with that with MC will she have a chance for Tokyo, regardless if she’s better at everything else.

What irks me is that based on what we’ve seen in WC, NORCECA, JWO isn’t too far from Courtney in terms of passing, really. It’s marginal already at this level. It’s not like we’re comparing a Gabi to Brayelin. Sheesh.
JWO being so much better at everything else should be enough to win her a spot. Hopefully, 2 seasons of professional volleyball has earned her valuable experience and confidence to own that spot.

Anybody who still thinks we can win a medal in Tokyo with Larson on the floor hasn't spent any time watching her recent professional seasons. Just let her go gracefully into the sunset.
