Anybody who still thinks we can win a medal in Tokyo with Larson on the floor hasn't spent any time watching her recent professional seasons. Just let her go gracefully into the sunset. Oh boy, now that's opening another whole can of worms on here...

So anywho... who starts and libero and setter for most of this tournament? Do you think Karch has decided yet? JWO and Carlini would be sweet IMO.

Courtney is the top choice for libero and will see the most playing time there. She doesn’t play professionally as a lib so Karch will give her as much playing time as possible to be comfortable on the left before Tokyo. She got criticized a ton for not being able to pick up short tips but that is not something she’s used to do professionally. Her serve receive is really great and USA wants to be the best side out team in the tournament. Courtney vs JWO, who will end up in Tokyo? I'm pulling for JWO right now.

1-2. DR, Canada, Brazil >>>> Serbia C, Netherlands, Thailand. Especially considering the fact that DR and Brazil are actually in the Olympics and there's a very good chance that USA will match-up with them in the crossovers. Using that is not a fair comparison between Courtney and JWO.
2. Courtney should've been out after that WC match against China... 3. Sure, but ideally both flop hard and Kelsey has to "put out the fires". 4. China A is going to stay on the bench*. It's VNL. Last time WMJ "didn't play" because she had a minor injury. Do you think that'll happen if it's the World Cup or Olympics? They'll play through minor injuries. edit: also, I don't think the libero designation can switch in a single match. Unless if you mean "take 3 liberos, Lib #1, #2, and Kelsey" -- if FIVB even allows that.
* Unless if Jenny is so confident she can beat the US convincingly three, maybe four times (2x VNL and maybe 2x OG) in one summer. Historically that hasn't been the case.
1. Which is exactly why JWO should start. If she can’t hold up against those teams, I think Karch would be like “how can she handle the medal favorites?” If she passes through this round, she will get another chance to live. 2. Courtney getting more leniency cause I think she’s still his #1. 3. Re: China match, this will be their decider. If neither can pull a win for USA, given that an A-Team China plays, then both will be taken out. The succeeding rounds, Krob will be libero leading up to Tokyo. OMG that is some good LIBERobo drama. I'm here for it. Bish makes her first reappearance in the L jersey for USA since 2018 and she freakin' blows us all away. I'm heeeeeeeere for that.

1. Why should JWO have to prove herself against those teams instead of Courtney? I really don't see how Courtney is better. In any case we've already seen Courtney not being able to hold up against China in the world cup so if that's the argument she should already be cut from the roster.
2. Yeah, that's a wrong choice, LOL.
3. The sooner Karch&co wake up to the reality that the lib is best for Krob, the better. The other OH's should be Larson and Bartsch
I’m all for JWO too but knowing Karch and his tendency to play favorites, thinking MC is still his #1 isn’t too far-fetched. Unless LOWE getting cut early on is an indication, I think MC’s still his choice. I wonder how Lowe and Adams are handling not making the cut? Do ya'll think they are going to be late substitutions to the roster after week 3?

Yan Ni is such a beast. She is going to be really tough to replace when she retires from the NT.

That's just how it happens, and we love the drama. It's fun haha

It's fun haha Yep, it's all part of team sports. Dude Karsta was clutch during the 2019 World Cup. She came in and delivered when Annie faltered. Annie will be the starter. She is trending upwards. I do really hope Thompson gets to be on the court at some point with Foluke, Larson, Plummer and Ogbogu. I think Poulter setting them could be scary good: S: Poulter OH: Plummer, Robinson MB: Akinradewo, Ogbogu OPP: Thompson L: Courtney (I want JWO but Courtney is Karch's #1) That line up gives me chills.

So why does Karch want Courtney over JWO anyway, if objectively, it can be argued JWO is better than Courtney in many areas as a libero.

That is what Karch needs for USA fast to work. They have to be the best first ball side out team in the world. But they will struggle to pick up tips more than probably any other team present in Tokyo. We just suck at tip coverage since all of our athletes are so dang tall. Not quick enough. THAT's why I want all 5'6" JWO out there scrambling around and covering the floor. I'm still kind of mad that Mary Lake didn't pan out. She looked promising. Hentz will perhaps fill her role in time?
