I think USA is a Top 3 team now. Above Serbia. If Mihajlovic, Rasic, and Veljkovic don't get it together, I might agree. But I wouldn't bet against that.

All of the Italian matches (men's and women's) won't be on RAI, but here www.la7.it/dirette-tv (it's not geoblocked, well its not now anyways)

Ouch...that's gonna hurt...real bad. i feel bad and then I don't. Some of the girls cut were a long shot and others simply didn't put in the work. Adams and Lowe didn't play pro. Well Adams did but she came home super early and Lowe didn't go over seas. They weren't at the level they previously were and others have passed them by. It can't be a complete shock, can it?

The premise of my statement relies heavily on the word NOW. We'll see how all teams perform in Tokyo. Either way, it's just my opinion based on what I see and you're all entitled to all yours

The next two months will depend on how they are now and how they will grow from that. Both teams may grow but the question will be if will one grow at a faster rate than the other. Assessing them now still matters.

But I didn't say it was a complete shock, but it will still hurt, either way, no? Yeah, it’s not sad because it’s shocking in any way, but because of the likely ‘finality’ of their careers with the national team. For Karsta at least, we know this is probably the end with team USA. She may show up in AU again, but that’s not the same. We know she’s not going back overseas. We know she’s not going to probably wear a team USA jersey again. I have enjoyed watching Karsta play since her UCLA days and knowing she was not selected for this team, no matter how rightfully so, it makes me a bit sad. I know she isn’t the answer at opposite for team USA. She’s ragged on a lot because her defense sucks and she’s not dedicated enough and she doesn’t try hard enough and she doesn’t care enough. But she’s a damn good volleyball player (or she wouldn’t have ever worn a team USA jersey to begin with, she wouldn’t have played in Italy, she wouldn’t have played in China), she provided many entertaining moments throughout her career, and I’ll miss watching her play. I’ve known that for a while, but not seeing her name on this roster made it sink in. I think that’s the ‘sad’ part. For me anyway.

Both teams may grow but the question will be if will one grow at a faster rate than the other. Assessing them now still matters. Only USA is going to be doing any growing, Serbia would be rebuilding. Ogne+Miha+Rasic have already shown they're world class, and them having had a couple of bad matches in club doesn't take that away. Personally I am doubtful that Miha will be back to her usual form, but USA and Serbia are absolutely not in the same boat. I mean just look at China in the IOQTs vs Germany and vs Turkey literally the day after. Form is something you can find and restore in a very short timeframe, so for that, yes, two months is an eternity and Serbia's form now should not indicate what they will be capable of in Tokyo.
Can USA overtake Serbia? There's a good chance, but I think less than 50%.
