Since pretty much all of us are predicting that USA wins VNL who do we think will be MVP of this edition? 2018: MBH 2019: Drews 2021: ? My guess is either Larson or Robinson. It's essentially whomever plays the most and gets the most kills, usually. When is the last time a setter got the award?

Yeah, it’s not sad because it’s shocking in any way, but because of the likely ‘finality’ of their careers with the national team. For Karsta at least, we know this is probably the end with team USA. She may show up in AU again, but that’s not the same. We know she’s not going back overseas. We know she’s not going to probably wear a team USA jersey again. I have enjoyed watching Karsta play since her UCLA days and knowing she was not selected for this team, no matter how rightfully so, it makes me a bit sad. I know she isn’t the answer at opposite for team USA. She’s ragged on a lot because her defense sucks and she’s not dedicated enough and she doesn’t try hard enough and she doesn’t care enough. But she’s a damn good volleyball player (or she wouldn’t have ever worn a team USA jersey to begin with, she wouldn’t have played in Italy, she wouldn’t have played in China), she provided many entertaining moments throughout her career, and I’ll miss watching her play. I’ve known that for a while, but not seeing her name on this roster made it sink in. I think that’s the ‘sad’ part. For me anyway. Of course, if Karch blows it with the roster choice and US doesn't make it into the Tokyo final, we'll all blame him for not including Lowe. I can almost predict that. No. I feel like just enough people aren't Lowe fans that we'll find something else to point the finger at. Most likely the libero.

For the most part MVP in past World Grand Prix has either been an OH or OPP. The last time a middle won the award was in 2013 (Thaisa) and in 2010 (Akinradewo). For a libero it was Yuko Sano of Japan in 2014.

I know this is about to be an Olympic roster post not VNL post... but, imagine how hard Jenny Lang Ping would slay with the versatility of this roster: S - Carlini, Poulter L - Larson OH/L - Robinson OH - MBH, Hill OH/OPP - Thompson, Plummer OPP - Drews MB - Akinradewo, Ogbogu, Washington That’s what I think is the teams best Olympic Roster. Not quite the positions I would use (Larson at Libero ain’t happening) but that roster gives the team the best chance at a medal IMO.

I understand Robinson is potentially the best possible libero option, but I actually do agree with her assessment that she can provide more value to Team USA on the OH. Honestly I think Larson & Robinson would both be great (equal?) libero options. more value to OH where you have larson, mbh and hill equally good? But libero position she is better than jwo/courney. Don't see the point.

I think she's exactly the type of player that league needs. She's quality competition, has the legacy, and was a really interesting/engaging personality to watch (punting that ball into oblivion... amazing). She's the type of drama they need to bring attention to themselves. I think she could do a lot to help grow and develop AU. You’re right - she would be great as an ambassador for AU. And I would love to continue watching her play in that capacity as the league tries to build.

Is Robinson a better passer than Courtney? yes Do you have stats to back that up? I think you may be surprised.

Just because an OH is a great defender in A6, does not mean they'd be a great (or even good) defender in A5.
