There is nothing like the false chimera of outstanding VNL performance as an indicator of how you're going to perform at the very highest level. Karch certainly wouldn't want to view pro season performance as a possible indicator. I can't think of a better example of this than kRob's VNL performance and then her subsequent performance against China in the WC finals. What would you consider the best indicator of how someone will do at different tournaments? “All you stupid losers who thought you could compare the play of 200 players from one tournament to the next must not have watched one athlete do worse in the second one and that single example is how I’m going to back up my claims” would have a lot more effect if you offered any sort of alternative than cherry picking one single athlete’s performance to prove your point. People who only watch NCAA + national team tournaments complain when someone brings up the performance of an athlete in her pro career, as though the 3 months of volleyball played with national team is a better indicator of the skill of an athlete than the other 9 months where she’s playing weekly with her pro team. So if we can’t judge Kelsey Robinson based on her 200 pro matches, and we can’t judge Kelsey Robinson on her VNL performance, we can only judge Kelsey Robinson on her match at World Championships vs China? How does any of your logic make sense?

Well that makes it even more awkward - Kim Hill has arguably the biggest delta of anyone on the roster, in her ‘I’m highly regarded across the world and by my pro team but my USA national team personal level of play is never anything to write home about’ career. Edited to say - I do love Kim Hill, too. Just seems odd to get upset about one player having a roller coaster of a time when your favorite does the same thing...

No no no. You can't cut out hill just yet. We all know what she can bring to the table if only. But ONLY the connection between her and setters will workout. How? Let her play more with the setter. Isn't it exciting how she will perform this yr after being absent in 2019 and no tournament in 2020? She is more motivated this time.

Obviously lang ping was confident they will win against usa in world cup. Did usa use all players during tht match? I know bartsch subbed in for krob and the result was better. Though it was still a 3-0 win for china.

I'm like 95% sure that Kim said she wanted a break during 2019 (I swear I remember reading that). That's why she only really played at the IOQT. There's no reason why Karch wouldn't have tried her against China otherwise. Especially with the Olympics this summer, I expect her to be full guns blazing.

How does any of your logic make sense? I don’t think any one tournament, in general, is indicative of an athlete’s overall performance. However, this is the only competition where the team will be together before the Olympic Games. Other than the players’ pro season, there hasn’t been high-level, competitive (international) matches since 2019. The VNL will be used to assess where the players are currently at.

What I will say is that Kim hasn't been putting up the offensive numbers for IMOCO that she used to but the rest of her game is really good. It could be because of Egonu but not sure. We need a left side to score more points and that was her thing for team USA... is it now?

Drews is NO egonu. So everyone should contribute a points. That is why i don't also think karch will only use drews and Thompson in the right, we might even see bartsch, swp and plummer playing that position.

he only use hill for serving. Not sure if that's in purpose, could be different result if he use Larson-hill-bartsch.
