I think you just have a different definition of commitment than a few people on here do. There are definitely some reasons I don't think Lowe is a lock for Tokyo, but commitment to the sport isn't really one of them. Also, there are quite a few athletes for other sports who have taken a year off after an olympic cycle and then returned to go to the next olympics. Just off the top of my head, figure skaters have done this a lot in the past... I agree...I mean Matt Anderson took this past professional season off right before the Olympics. "Commitment" isn't the issue. I frankly just wasn't impressed enough by what I saw from Lowe at the World Cup and in the AU. Hopefully she proves me wrong, because Drews isn't going to get it done every single match and either JT/Lowe will need to step up and provide consistency. I think this VNL roster (if they release it *eye roll*) will tell us a lot about where the coaching staff thinks they are. This is the last I'll say on the matter. Lowe had so much promise in 2016. She then decided to stop playing professionally, because she didn't like playing overseas (at least, that's what I remember). At that time, I decided not to put all of my eggs in the Lowe basket. That's when I decided to longer be a "fan," in the context of this thread. She started playing again after her grad program, and her level was noticeably worse. Since then, she hasn't been consistent and when she decided to take the season off again to coach, I just didn't think she was committed enough to playing overseas, where she needed to get experience if she was going to be a viable OPP option for Team USA. I got screamed at by a teenager for saying essentially this, because he gets pressed when other posters don't like his favorite players. If you don't like "commitment to the sport" (which I don't think I ever said) perhaps "commitment to opportunities to get better." I've already explained why I think playing overseas is important -- Karsta disagrees with me I guess. That's no judgment on her. But when you look at her career, and how her choices not to play overseas have affected her play, I think it's a very reasonable stance. |

I don’t think it’s that Karsta “doesn’t think playing overseas is important.”
I think Karsta puts her mental health before her athletic career. Not everyone can play overseas. Karsta deals with quite serious anxiety and depression; to the point where she believes it is too damaging to her own mental health to live away from home for most of the year.
I think she probably realizes this gives others an advantage over her. But she still wants to try. It’s not her fault if she’s selected over someone else. Air your grievances with Karch; but don’t assume Karsta isn’t motivated or doesn’t love volleyball enough or whatever.
